Deceased Oklahoma Robbery Suspect’s Grandfather Says ‘Unfair’ to Shoot Grandson with AR-15
Breitbart ^ | 4/2/17 | Awr Hawkins

The grandfather of one of three suspects killed during the alleged March 27 home invasion in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, says the use of an AR-15 against the suspects was “unfair.”

According to  Tulsa World, Wagoner County Sheriff’s deputy Nick Mahoney said the three suspects “were wearing all-black clothing, masks, and gloves” and allegedly “forced their way into the home through a glass door in the back.” The homeowner’s son was asleep at the time and awoke to “loud bangs” as the suspects made entrance. The son grabbed the AR-15 and opened fire when the intruders walked into the hallway.

Deputy Mahoney said “investigators found a knife on one of the deceased in the kitchen and brass knuckles on the other.”

ABC 8 reports that Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of deceased 17-year-old suspect Jacob Redfearn, says what the boys “did was stupid” but they did not deserve to die.” He added, “Brass knuckles against an AR-15, come on, who was afraid for their life.”

He said the use of the AR-15 meant “his grandson didn’t have a chance.” He said, “There’s got to be a limit to that law, I mean he shot all three of them; there was no need for that.”

I agree with that. teenagers make dumb decisions all the time. but they also murder people all the time. This kid crossed a line he shouldn’t have and fair has got nothing to do about anything after that. he shouldn’t have broke into another man’s home.

...dressed in all black with gloves and masks on in the middle of the night...

Correction - "middle of the DAY"

It was lunchtime. Why the homeowner's son was in bed at that time of the day has not been in any article I've read.

He added, “Brass knuckles against an AR-15, come on, who was afraid for their life.”

The victim who was awakened from his sleep in his home to find 3 masked intruders would be my guess!

I’m a third shifter. It’s 0630 right now and I’ll be going to bed soon and won’t wake up until around 1700 hrs hopefully.

You shoot to stop the threat. Death might be a side effect. Use of a rifle substantially increases the odds of that. A rifle is also more effective at stopping the threat.

But you shoot to stop the threat. Ask your lawyer if you’re not clear on that.

Welp. Unless & until somebody volunteers an explanation, I’m content assuming the kid was minding his own dadgum business.

Speaking of volunteering, I am of the opinion that night-shifters - or anybody else asleep at the time - should get a freebie for bagging the JW or any other needlessly presumptuous fool that disturbs a sleeping household. Now, now, I’m not greedy, as they do tend to travel in pairs. Just the slowest one at fleeing the stoop, not all of ‘em.

That’s right....plus the shooter’s quick-thinking probably saved the lives of others in the home.

Thank God, the young man is an expert at handling an AR-15.

Getting off three shots against the black-clad invading horde is amazing.

He should get a medal.

I feel bad for the grandpa too. The kids made their choices and paid dearly. That’s a clear headed fact that I can state while not having to deal with a personal loss. Before it ever hit close to home, I’m guessing this grandpa thought the same as everyone else here. My kids are those dead boy’s age. My hope and prayer is they continue making good, godly, law-abiding choices. We are all one stupid choice from wrecking our own lives and the lives of those around us.

Gramps may want to direct his ire to the fat little Mexican girl that talked his bonehead grandson into the stunt that cost him his life.

The shooter broke no law. The shooter exercised his God given and Constitutional rights.

What is unfair is that the grandfather and the dead criminal’s family raised him to think it was okay to commit crime, to break into someone else’s house. Shame on them.

I would probably ask the question....was this the first house that they’d broken into. With the amount of preparation they did....I suspect they’d broken into dozen-odd houses. They were living on borrowed time.

There are groups of people who like breaking the law. They've always thought it was unfair of citizens to defend themselves, and had those conversations about how bad it was that the citizen didn't just give up his stuff and take a beating. Think of the Jimmy character in Goodfellas who was so hurt that Tommy got killed, but had no problem with killing other people.

Guys, there are people who think Detroit is perfect just like it is, cause they can go out and kill people with no fear of reprisal. To them, that's a perfect world.

The difference is that previously, no newspaper would give that kind of sick thinking a voice. Today, we live in a world where every thought, no matter how stupid, gets serious consideration.

Hey whatever floats your boat! This was a very enjoyable outcome. I'm growing weary of those homeowners who are unable to do better than pop the perps with a couple of .22s. I have mixed emotions about one perp dying and the other ending up in intensive care.

Even a .38 won't always take someone out. The young hero of this story meant business, and finished the job. I commend him for using the AR 15, and not leaving us with a big medical and prison bill for a perp who is only wounded.

I say it was unfair that the perp. could not be seen in the dark.

The perp. should have been home hanging with granpa. Instead he was doing houses. Granpa screwed up.

Its not the 2nd amendment’s fault.

The grandfather’s response gives us all a bit of insight into how little Jacob managed to make it to 17 and still be so stupid.

I sympathize with the shooter. After all, through no fault of his own he was forced to kill three people. Some react badly to that. Hope he’ll do OK down the road.
