The New York Times has just published an op-ed article saying that Mexico may give up its rightful claim to ownership of Texas, California and the entire Southwest of the United States, but only if the U.S. government gives the hugely valuable prize of U.S. citizenship to many millions of Mexicans plus citizenship for all their kids and grandkids, on and on, forever.
The infinitely valuable compensation is justified because todays Americans must wipe away the moral stain of war crimes committed in the 1840s by the U.S. military and government, says the op-ed by a Mexican historian and author, Enrique Krauze, who notably declined to forswear a alternative Mexican reconquista of the Southwest.
some Mexicans are proposing to remind Mr. Trump exactly what country was the first victim of American imperialism. They are calling for a lawsuit that would aim to nullify the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (signed on Feb. 2, 1848), in which Mexico invaded by American soldiers, its capital occupied, its ports and customs stations seized was forced to accept the American annexation of Texas and concede more than half the rest of Mexican territory, ...
For us Mexicans, this is the chance for a kind of reconquest. Surely not the physical reconquest of the territories that once were ours. Nor an indemnification that should have been much greater than the feeble amount of $15 million that the American government paid, in installments, for the stolen land. We need a reconquest of the memory of that war so prodigal in atrocities inspired by racial prejudices and greed for territorial gain.
But the best and most just reparation would be American immigration reform that could open the road to citizenship for the descendants of those Mexicans who suffered the unjust loss of half their territory.

The leftist theory is always that prosperity is the inexorable development of History as is poverty. Those who become prosperous just happened to move to the to-be-prosperous place at the right time to become prosperous themselves. Years ago I heard all about how the Jews who built the garment industry in New York really didn’t build anything, they just happened to be the group that moved in just as the needle trades were taking off.
Howsabout we offer to trade California to Mexico in exchange for the promise that all of their citizens currently in the US relocate there?
They don[t want their deadbeats back. They do want the billions in remittances to continue.
This article shows why illegal Mexicans should be kicked out of the country. They aren’t immigrants, they’re invaders.
That's a self-contradiction. If we annex Mexico, then they're all US citizens, and free to migrate ... but wait! ...
Lefties will tell you that success and prosperity is just an accident of geography, and I think that’s bs. Some cultures promote advancement and growth, other cultures promote oppression and stagnation. It’s no accident that citizenship in countries with European culture is coveted.
We bought and or fought both places. Fuch off mehico.
This is why you can never validate liberal idiots, thry jst get more and more idiotic.
They know this is totally false but will appear concessionary to accept something less. When they are still totally false.
Uhh, if the descendants of those Mexicans from Texas and the Cession stayed in the US, they are citizens. And a little known fact anout the Mexican War. Mexico blieved it could win. The US Army had 18,000 officers and men under arms while the Mexican regular army was around 60,000. When Winfield Scott abandoned his line of supply from Vera Cruz and set off toward Mexico City the greatest general of the day, the Duke of Wellington, famously said “Scott is lost.” The illusion people have is thinking of Mexico and the US in contemporary terms. In 1846 the two nations were far more equal in terms of population and resources.
True. It is insane.
And they’ve gotten many politicians, judges and businesses on their side.
Like I said, some things never change.
LOL
Next thing you know the NYT will say we should give the Louisiana purchase back to France.
Given how many Mexicans have moved into the US - more than live in Mexico - I think the US has a perfect right to simply claim all of Mexico as it’s own territory. There’s certainly more logic behind such an act than the leftist fantasies about Mexican claims on any part of the US.
It is Determinist. Marxists are Determinists.
Howabout we just conquer Mexico again, take the cartel’s money to build the wall, and force all the leftists to live there. The Mexicans currently here would then migrate back home to where a lot of work would be available from the housing and other building boom. A lot of leftists are good businessmen surprisingly so they could make that part of the continent better until their leftist policies ruined it again like it has done to California.
They must be getting the top shelf drugs over there at the NY Slimes these days to live in a fantasy land like that.
That may work, as long as it isn’t a bigger tax burden on us, no benefits that worked for going to them.
