Like I just got done telling you, you don’t have a firm grasp of the situation. Drug addiction and alcoholism are far more complicated than you understand.

Guess where all the opium is grown? Just down the street from the MOAB we dropped... can’t have supply lines pinched now can we?

The supply needs to be cut off. The police ought to be killing drug dealers in the streets and the military ought to be dealing with the cartels. I fully support all of the above and I have nothing else to say to you about it.

Veterinarians get roped in on the issue because they have access to a wide range of meds that can and do get diverted and misused. On the larger issue, several pharma companies in the US stoked opioid sales through cooked up studies, medical journal articles, and presentations to doctors that downplayed the risks of addiction. Doctors were misled into thinking that newer types of opioids could be safely prescribed to more patients — and the result was a surge of new addicts who were first hooked by their doctors. A full on legislative attack on the problem would include investigation of that misconduct by pharma companies so as to lead to civil suits and potential criminal prosecution of those responsible.

Not sure what Breaking Bad meant, but the only way to break bad is with good.

Our world is filled with bored, purposeless souls today. They’d sooner find purpose in a pill than in anything else the world is presenting to them.

God, unsurprisingly to those who understand, is still saying “miss Me yet?”

People used to be reticent to waste their existence on mind emptying chemicals because they had a sense of life mission from the divine. Now what happens today when, say, a gospel figure tries to posit such a thing. It’s going to be imperfect, we know. The rest of Christendom jumps on that person, like the proverbial crabs trying to keep one of their fellows from crawling out of the trap. Oh how terrible is this “Purpose Driven Life” or however it’s phrased! Oh, people might sin carrying it out! Oh, nothing but our current ideas of orthodoxy will suffice!

And God is groaning from heaven.

Don’t let drugs distract you. The real issue is a supernatural one, and the need to connect with the transcendent. Christendom used to know of a sin that our modern bibles call sorcery, but it consisted of using drugs to connect with the demonic supernatural world which falsely promised meaning.

Instead of sticking one’s head in the proverbial sand and ignoring all of this, one should strive for the best possible understanding of God and His desires and purposes and manner. We have a problem with a transcendent dimension and all the police states in the world will not be able to suppress it. No, not even in a Singapore, where people will either get drunk or misuse prescriptions which they don’t count as street drugs.

And the society will shortly tie all its resources up in vain policing. Animals and people will both suffer and abusers will still find ways to abuse.

What I found interesting in BB was the complete absence of any spiritual beliefs in the characters. No reference to prayer or going to church not even a Buddhist temple. Well there was the Santara-like offerings to Satan on behalf of the Mexican medium.

Maybe or maybe not. Police regimes can go pretty far.

It’s addressing the issue from the wrong end. When devils are playing a society with an item that has common legitimate uses, one has to address the devils’ role in the society’s life, and that with God. Otherwise the society will tie itself in knots over the problem, something that amuses the devils as much as the abuses themselves do.

The world is aching for a revival. Something that will put the drugs back in their proper place. As medicines of mercy, not as tools of cruelty.

My grandfather was an alcoholic, and died from it. He mistreated my mother.

But I’m so glad I have super-smart people like you, to tell people like me I have no grasp of the situation. In case you don’t grasp it, that was sarcasm.

Personally, if it was up to me, I’d throw every drug dealer feet first into a wood chipper, then expel every drug addict out of the country permanently.

I’m not sure that would solve the long term problem of devils invited by a society. And it wouldn’t even be accepted.

Seems to me that Christendom should be charging boldly into the rehab scene. What a place to show that gospel beats out an attenuated 12-step any day of the week.

But I’m so terribly sorry you had to go through this hell on earth.

Sometimes, however — keep in mind — God lets hells play out on earth so that people will be more earnest about reaching out to the heaven that comes from off earth. C. S. Lewis, for one noted author, knew well about this.

Really, instead of anti-drug laws and policing, you prefer rampant, destructive drug use?

your grasp of the solution is as poor as your grasp of the problem. If the supply is cut off, the problem will be mostly resolved before the next generation comes of age. If the supply isn't cut off, the problem will worsen. It's really that simple.

False dichotomy. I am going to leave you to elucidate for yourself what the false dichotomy is, because you have apparently missed all the other things I have said on this thread. Those who understand will know.

Oh, you’d be amazed how demand can generate supply.

The problem will be hard to fix even if you eliminate the supply. If you fail to eliminate the supply, it will be impossible. and I have argued with you about this enough times to know that you aren’t interested in solving this issue. You see the problem as a solution.
