In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “Word for the Day”.

: having puissance : powerful
Origin:
Puissant has some powerful ties to some more commonplace English words. Although "puissant" has a considerably fancier feel than "power" and "potent," all three words share the same Latin ancestor: posse, a verb meaning "to be able." "Power" came to us by way of Anglo-French poer, which is itself thought to have come from "potēre," a Vulgar Latin alteration of "posse." "Potent" came from "potent-, potens," a present participle of "posse." From "poer" came the adjective pussant, meaning "able" or "powerful" in Anglo-French, and English speakers borrowed that to form "puissant" in the 15th century.

Had a doctor’s appointment today. I am celebrating! My A1C was a 6. Even with a week of 200s in the hospital after surgery. She was happy. Got hugs from my counselor and doctor. My husband had to drive me, so he met my team. Even had lunch out after.

Whenever they are called out
Over the dumb things they say
Liberals will just try to pretend
They’re puissant in some way
Both Fauxcahontas and Hillary
Lift their chin and their nose-
Contempt for us commoners
Is so very plain in that pose
It is just smoke and mirrors-
Pretending to still have power
But Hillary lost it all for them
So now even Bernie looks sour...
