No
Why burden the military with it?
Don’t they gave enough to do without having to reform a bunch of special snowflakes?
No More Government telling us what to do.
No way
Instead, form an American Foreign Legion like France and other countries have done. I once wrote an article on that for an e-zine but they have since then disappeared.
NO!
It was bad enough back in my day when people in general (other than the ‘hippies’) were fairly patriotic.
I served at the end of the draft era and the beginning of the all volunteer era.
In my experience, two out of ten draftees made fairly good soldiers. The rest were detrimental to esprit de corps and unit competence. Much more trouble than they were worth.
NO!
our debt-fed Fed.gov is far too big. Any government-sponsored marshaling of American youth will be greatly used and abused by nanny-staters and leftists for their own propaganda and brain-washing. They’ll turn everyone into “community-organizers.”
they will do to the draft, what they have done to public schooling - only much worse.
Yes.
I can't wait.
Nope, just have every able bodied 18 Year Old attend an abbreviated National Guard Boot Camp for a Month.
On their way Home, tell them they are on Call for the next four Years just in case their Nation needs them.
No College Deferrals, no Family Obligations, nothing but a Month Long paid Vacation courtesy of Uncle Sam.
I have forgotten who said that “All armies are either mercenaries or slaves and history shows that mercenaries make better soldiers”
The only time a draft makes sense to me is in a situation like WW2 where the problem is too many men are volunteering and height, weight and health requirements are used to weed out those physically unfit for service.
Yes. It’s one way to undo the years of brainwashing millennials suffered at the hands of liberal teachers. Of course, it won’t work on everyone. But the draft can turn out some fine soldiers if given the chance. And they’ll never turn if denied the opportunity and experience of serving their country. Just my opinion.
This is NOT the old military and the rules have changed, to the point where, until President trump changes things, the military is just a "SOCIAL JUSTICE"/ACCEPT PERVERSION/WOMEN ARE THE SAME AS MEN indoctrination bastion, with far too many lefty hold overs in change, thanks to Obama.
If there was a call to enlist, a new "Uncle Sam Want's You!" campaign there would be no need for a draft.
Excellent question. Excellent responses here.
No. Draft brings about a high percentage of lazy soldiers. Plus, the present voluntary military is tops in the world and has a waiting list.
A rational draft that would preclude all the fears of being drafted would be a universal MALE draft to be automatic at age 18 or 17 if a high school graduate for 6 months of basic and infantry training with no assignment to actual duty. At the end of the 6 months the trainees would not be allowed to enlist in the regular military for a further 6 months. With that system the draft for actual service would not be necessary. The main resistance to the draft is young men who fear being shot at or who fear putting their college on hold and others getting an earlier start at careers. The universal training ends the fear-of-the-unknown factor. It is something all have experienced and it is not scary any more. If the nation is under attack there will be no lack of volunteers. And, we will have a much more mature, patriotic, responsible population of young men. No, women should not be drafted and should not be trained in battlefield arts unless there is a real prospect of massive invasion.
Hell No.
Nope
Not a military draft, keep that as it is and add a national service draft. Train some for riot control, some for disaster recovery, some for wildland firefighting. Those not physically capable of those jobs will do office-related support work.
As a volunteer that signed up the day ground war started for GW1, I see the reasoning behind wanting to.
Instill a sense of discipline and love for country in those that would not otherwise have it.
But, I wouldn’t subject the people that already have it...and sign on the line without being forced to.....to the unending bullshiite that bringing these kids online would take.
Nope. Volunteers truly care about this country. They can take care of the workload. If they start thinking they can’t take it, they’re just going to work harder.
