Marine Corps Considers Ending Policy of “Every Marine is a Rifleman”

The United State’s military may be about to undergo a radical change. The Marine Corps Times is reporting that there’s an initiative in the works that might see Marines branch out, away from the traditional model that trained every member of the Corps on the basics of physical combat. Some of the new Marines may even skip basic training.

The idea gained momentum almost a year ago, when Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter suggested a military build up required soldiers with computer skills, and that these new recruits might be able to move into units with credit for their civilian expertise and experience acknowledged in the form of advanced rank.

The concept seemed ridiculous to many Marines who begin their military careers with rigorous physical training and a battery of drills designed to increase their proficiency with small arms.

I would never send my son into battle without the best survival skills. Period. That's why I said if he joins, he joins the Marines.

This idea needs to die. Ash Carter should be tried and shot. For stupidity if nothing else.

The reason why every Marine is a rifleman, is that the supporting jobs are done by the Navy. Including medical corpsmen.

As an advocate of the principle “Every American A Rifleman”, I can’t say I’m for this.

Personally, I think it is because Ash Carter is a flaming queen and he knows the majority of his queer friends that he made sure could join the Corps, couldnt last even one day at Marine boot physical training!

Idiotic and moronic.

A “computer warrior” is not a marine but a different military division - similar to the army/navy divisions.

Or do I have to pull out Starship troopers the movie?!
“Sir what’s the point of learning knife throwing in a nuke fight?! Just push a button and you’re done”
[throws a knife into the cadet’s hand]
“The enemy cannot push a button if you disable his hand. Medic!”

“Every Marine is a Rifleman” is what makes a Marine a Marine. take that away and this fighting force is just another Army. With all the strap hangers that go with it.Yep, I’m Retired Army and proud of it, however a Marine is a Marine!!!

They apparently need a Navy Networks/Computer Corps to support them.

I do fondly remember the Marine Tactical Wire Assault Team and their very large Unit Sign at Camp Pendleton.

My oldest son went to MEPS Monday and his brother leaves next week. Both are going in as infantry.

Ash Carter can ESAD, the sooner the better. I hope Trump replaces these Obama Sodomites ASAP.

More and more TV shows have supergeeks that are fat and slovenly but of course portrayed as brilliant beyond belief, coming out of their mother's basement to solve crimes.

Personally I think they want to lower the standards so that michael moore would make it.

I know it’s the Army, but haven’t these people heard of the Battle of the Bulge? You never know when your rear echelon may become the front line and your supply clerks will have to pick up a rifle and fight for their lives.

To steal a line from my retirement speech to a bunch of AF Personnel types: “If you can’t look down the barrel of a gun and know in your heart you can pull the trigger, you’re in the wrong business”.

I’m sure too. Damn it leave the Marines alone. We need one branch that has not been emasculated.
