More to the point of the original article, you don’t find many ladies named “Jethrine” who are under 55 either.

Caitlin (no “y”) is an Irish name, it is roughly pronounced Cash-leen and became Anglicized as Kathleen.

I knew a guy called Hillary, believe it or not Hilary was originally a man’s name, his mother added an extra “l” to his name to differentiate his name from the girl’s name which was then becoming popular, he hated the name but would at least point to the spelling difference to insist that his was a boy’s name.

You can well imagine his outrage when Hillary Clinton came along. Getting stopped at every passport checkpoint around the world as some official brightened up his day by guffawing “Heelarree Kleenton, ha, ha, ha, ha” got old very quickly.

Why do so many Americans adapt boy’s names or surnames as first names for their daughters? Courtney or Robin or Lindsay or Allyson or Drew seem like odd choices of names for girls.

Poor guy.

Some occasional reasons to get a new name:

A friend of mine's original name was Stewart, which I like but he really did not like it and at the age of 15 he convinced his parents to allow him to legally change his name to Woody.

One time I was doing some political calling and the next person on my list was Mrs. _____ Butts. Mr. Butts answered the phone and I said, "Is this Mr. Butts?" Yes. "May I please speak to Mrs. Butts?"

Another friend of mine has the last name of Busam. Which is German and is pronounced "Bosom." He told me he once dated a gal named Candy. She was not marriage material on account of her name.

... the former Bruce Jenner.

There is ONLY Bruce Jenner. The Bruce Jenner that has XY chromosomes flowing through his body that he filled with hormones and had cut on by surgeons.

That cost plenty, I'm sure. And yes, he looks different. But in the end, he's still Bruce Jenner.

I’ve never heard of the name Jethrine. Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses, is a good old Hebrew name.

Or their sons named Sue.

Apparently no one is naming girls Sue, either. Of the hundreds, perhaps even thousands of names of teenagers I have seen on high school roll sheets in the past year, I don't think I've seen a single Susan, Susanna, or Sue.
