Coffee drinkers live longer and have lower risk of disease, studies find

Coffee drinkers live longer, according to two large-scale studies released Monday that add to extensive research indicating coffee consumption is associated with better health.

The studies examined the health histories of hundreds of thousands of people who were tracked over many years. They found that coffee-drinking reduced the risk of various diseases among people from several ethnicities, and this effect was seen in drinkers of regular or decaffeinated coffee. And the more coffee consumed, the greater the benefit.

These are observational studies, not controlled clinical trials. So while they demonstrate an association, they don’t prove cause and effect. And it’s possible that extremely high levels of coffee consumption may produce other undesirable effects besides caffeine jitters.

I think the same effect exists with sugar-free Tea. Especially black Tea.

Coffee makes you live longer

Shift work kills you sooner

I do both

Hopefully it’s a wash.

Just got back from the doctor reviewing my blood work yesterday. It’s beautiful. EXCELLENT numbers. I drink coffee.

Gosh darn it, it must mean that coffee is good for me. #science!

Just after 7 am and I’m on my second cup. I take lots of cream and sugar though, so I hope they don’t negate the benefits of the coffee. I’m 62 and not on any meds (I guess I would be if I ever went to the doctor!) just supplements. So far so good though!

Yeah. Hasn't seemed to help me. Perhaps I would be much worse if I didn't drink coffee.

1955 was a great year, looks like several of us are doing well. My 4 year old daughter works to keep me young.

Just about 1830 hrs here, about to have my first beer, but planning for coffee in the morning.

I’m spoiled. I buy whole bean coffee from Costco and grind fresh daily. My current favorites are store brand Costa Rican or Guatemalan. Their Colombian too weak for me. Their Sumatran is too strong. I mix it 50/50 with Colombian.

Heh, that is a funny graphic! I saw that movie years ago, and it did absolutely nothing at all for me...didn’t engage me.

I decided to try to watch it again a few months ago, and enjoyed it immensely!

And I find the “Covfefe” meme hilarious!

Once again correlation is confused with cause, by modern pop science.

Could it be that many people who already have certain health problems have given up coffee?

And maybe the cause and effect is reversed - just as it may be with studies that claim regular exercise lowers risk of poor health. Rather than poor health lowers ability to exercise regularly.

LOL, that would have been the way my mother and father drank coffee...he, as a 30 year Navy man, more so. It was a constant, him sitting at the kitchen table, unfiltered Pall Mall in one hand, coffee cup in the other, and a new pot brewing all the time. Me, I went my entire life without drinking coffee, but as I approach retirement, I have taken to drinking one cup every day first thing in the morning...at first it was like taking speed for me, now it is just a kick in the pants!

Like General Robert E. Lee said about war, I always drink it black, lest I grow to love it too much!

That’s the way I see it. I don’t put any stock whatsoever in any of this stuff.

One day they say it is good. Another day, it’s bad. Then good again.

I say screw it. Live life the way you want and let the chips fall where they may. I won’t be a yo-yo for those yahoos in the media who think they control everyone’s lives with their pompous pronouncements.

But I do enjoy the resulting discussions...:)

A competent reporter. What a refreshing change.
