The BBC on Sunday revealed Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor for hit series Doctor Who. She will be the first female lead for the sci-fi series on the U.K. public broadcaster. Current lead Peter Capaldi will leave his role after this year's Christmas special...Earlier this year, Pearl Mackie was tapped to play the first openly gay companion to the space-hopping doc.

Dr. Who is (from what I remember from my childhood) a Time Lord who is periodically reincarnated into new physical bodies. So sure, why not have the next one be female. The issue with the newer Dr. Whos isn’t whether the lead is male or female, the issue is that the newer stories aren’t that good.

Yep, they opened Pandora’s box. Now every new doctor will have to cover some other demographic. My guess is the one after her will be black or “Asian”. The trans crowd will have their demands.

...curious if Wonder Woman will now have a male in the role.

They’re just doing it for the sake of it, we can’t have a straight, white, male as the character has always been right?

Well, everyone has their own opinions. I think Capaldi’s the best of the Doctors from the new series (Eccleston, Tennant, Smith). There’s a lot more depth, ambiguity, and character development in his Doctor and his episodes seem like they’re made for a more mature audience than the earlier ones. It’s just my opinion, but Eccleston was too goofy for me, Tennant too soap-opera-ish, and Smith too childish, even though there are many episodes that I really did like them in. Beyond that, I love that Capaldi’s so Classic Doctor like. The old series was a great show done on a shoe-string budget.

I definitely don’t like all the lefty nonsense they’ve increasingly added to the show, but they’ve been pushing the gay stuff since the revival in 2005. Remember Captain Jack was bi.

Funny how whites (conservative males, esp.) are accused of ‘appropriating’ everything - from culture to cuisine - for their own personal use and amusement, while the left essentially hijacks every mainstream institution in Western society, and feels the need to dyke it up or black it up. Or both. What it tells me is that they’re too intellectually lazy and/or just too damn dumb to come up with something original and compelling of their own that would get the attention of the unwashed masses. That’s a telling observation, right there. They have nothing to say that’s interesting even on a gut level. They’re just a cult pushing a subversive dogma under the auspices of ‘diversity’, and what better way to do it than to reboot, retread, or reconfigure existing popular media?

Our perspectives may differ. I had limited access to television in my youth, and it’s been on for most of my life. (I’m 55). I’d see an episode every now and again, but there is a lot of stuff that you need to know to really appreciate it, so it didn’t grab me at first.

I recently found myself with some time on my hands, so I started to get into it. I started off with Tennant and Smith, so they kind of defined the role for me. ‘Day of the Doctor’ was a blast to me.

Not the first. The First Female Doctor Who was in this Rowan Atkinson spoof for Rednose Day (at the end) -

I’ll watch it to see if it worth an hour a week. I’m not keen over the idea of a female Doctor Who.

Question to anyone...

Have any of the twelve Doctors had a sexual relationship during their brief and various incarnations?

I’ve watched all the Tom Baker episodes, but just a few episodes of the other Doctors, and they all seem to be celibate, and somewhat asexual.

(Reading over my reply, it is a bit spoiler-ish, so be forewarned.)

There seems to be an unstated taboo about Time Lords like the Doctor having sexual relations with humans. In the recent season finale, Missy said that even just being friends with humans for a Time Lord was like robbing the cradle. In the classic series, the Doctor didn’t seem at all interested in that sort of thing. I remember in one episode the third Doctor ended up at a peep show with the Brigadier (nothing shown onscreen of course). He sank down in his seat disgusted, while the Brig was applauding enthusiastically.

In the new series, the Doctor did seem to love Rose and later Clara, but there is no indication that anything sexual happened between them. Rose ended up with the half-human copy of the Doctor, but not the Doctor himself, while during a Christmas special Clara said that the Doctor was her “impossible” man. Even though it’s hinted in the Season 9 finale that she professed her love for the Doctor on Gallifrey, they didn’t end up together. When Amy kissed the eleventh Doctor and Missy kissed the twelfth doctor on the lips, both Doctors seemed totally freaked out by it.

The Doctor, however, does seem to have had relations with other people of his own species. When the series began, he already had a granddaughter from his home planet. Later on, he married River Song, who had both human and Time Lord DNA. Some of the things River says clearly indicates a sexual relationship. I think they’ve already written River out of the show (I really, really hope they don’t have the new woman Doctor with River as her “wife”).

I second that idea.

What do you mean by the Capaldi/Moffatt thing? RTD had a tone of homosexual innuendo that Moffatt dropped.

The Doctor is now dead to me. Now...EVERYTHING becomes about gender. Is River a lesbian now? Is Captain Jack going to go straight? I put up with all the subtle and overt Gayity up until now. I actually edited that nonsense out of my archival NuWhos for the sake of my kids. But now, we have crossed the Rubicon. I will ENDURE Capaldi, I didn’t MIND 11. Tennent will always be my favorite NuWho. But no...this has just been done to show off how Liberal they are, and so they can make fun of people like me. I’m tired of being made fun of by COOOOOOOOOOOL intellectuals. Goodbye Doctor.

You want a female TimeLady? Bring back the Rani. Bring back Susan. But I called this when they swapped The Master. “Yep, softening us up for the Doctor.”

She is easy to look at compared to the current guy.
Peter Capaldi looks like he eats lemons.
He used to be in a band with Craig Ferguson (Drew Carey, his own cbs talk show, now game show host)
Craig talks about him.

IIRC historically Time Lords were limited to 12 regenerations. Now we know why...

I haven’t watched DW in a while but uhhhhh.....

I heard they made the Master a woman, to do it to the Doctor too, seems lazy.

>> I can’t STAND Capaldi as The Doctor. <<

Capaldi's acting was fine and we were overdue for an older Doctor.

It was the writing that ruined his tenure, they tried to make his Doctor "hip" and "zany" and they wanted to constantly pandering to SJW's and promote leftist politics on the show.

He's the "Timothy Dalton" of the Doctor Who franchise. Great casting choice who inherited the role at exactly the WRONG time, when the franchise was at its weakest.

I stopped watching after 2016. Having his co-star being a ugly black lesbian with a man's name was the last straw for me. Casting a woman in the title role seems mild in comparison. But after 50+ years of the character being a man, it smacks of desperation at this point. Good luck trying to create "buzz" for that.
