Magic Bots: Vine-Inspired Robots Can Grow on Demand

Robots that mimic ivy vines can grow thousands of times their original lengths at speeds faster than the average person can run, a new study finds.

The new soft, flexible robots could one day be used in tight situations, such as to slither through rubble or snake inside the human body...

The newly developed robot is made of soft, flexible polyethylene, the most common plastic in the world. It grows from its tip via internal air pressure, which pushes plastic tubing stored at its base up through the core of its body. The robot is initially about 11 inches (28 cm) long, but can rapidly reach a maximum length of about 236 feet (72 meters), according to the researchers.

"The body doesn't move as the tip extends," Hawkes told Live Science. "That is, you could hold the body of the robot tightly in your hands, and the tip would keep growing."

... whether "the party of the first part" is a trigger phrase or merely sexual harassment.

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to.

For me, it’s a trigger phrase. But I don’t mind being triggered.

One reason we love you, Bob, is that you’re always up for a party.

Before I went to sit with Charlie, I swept the floors and decided I would mop them when I came back in. And I did. So now, my floors are clean, except for the rug in here, and I need to get the stuff put away where it belongs before I can vacuum.

I had bought some Walmart brand cleaning pads for the Wet-Jet, and they are really not very good. I’m almost out and that’s a good thing because on payday, I will buy the real deal. These suck up the cleaning fluid like there’s a drought. Some things under their brand are better than the brand names, but others are much worse.

I’m not sure if it’s political correctness. 13 hours isn’t politically correct. It’s just a matter of what the studios will risk money on. Which makes more sense to risk several $million on - Transformers M or some totally untried story line?

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to.

Is THAT how the line goes? That makes a lot more sense. I thought the line was, "It's my potty and I'll cry if I want to."

13 Hours was probably one of the most obvious recent kick-over-the-traces movies to come out in a long time. It was popular because it was based on a true story.

And I like Transformers, though after the first two, the rest were “pap.” I’m still trying find Optimus Prime without a prime price...

Congrats on the clean floors. We’ll be heading out the door in a few minutes on a multipurpose excursion with far too many participants.

"We’ll be heading out the door in a few minutes on a multipurpose excursion with far too many participants."

Eventually, one reaches the point where one of the purposes is to come back with fewer participants.

"Bye, kids!"

"Bye, Mom, we're gonna ..."

Vrooom

"... miss you."

Does seem kind of a slight to the Galactic Overlords doesn’t it?

Tonight there are only five Offspring in the house. And Tom’s upstairs, making the downstairs feel very spacious.

I’m planning on cruising by your neighborhood over the weekend, but I don’t think I’ll be able to stop by.

I would advise you and your family to avoid any major thoroughfares on Sunday through Monday.

All those foolish people, trying to catch a shadow.
