PHOENIX President Donald Trump faces a decision on Tuesday evening with profound implications for his already strained relationship with the GOP: whether to attack a vulnerable Republican senator on his home turf.
White House officials wont say exactly whats on Trumps agenda when he holds a campaign-style rally here. But it's widely expected he will go after GOP Sen. Jeff Flake, a loud critic of the president who recently published an anti-Trump manifesto, Conscience of a Conservative.
Whatever he says about Flake, the president is clearly determined to send a message. State Treasurer Jeff DeWit, who is weighing a primary challenge against Flake, will join the president on Air Force One on Tuesday, according to two people briefed on the plans. And the daughter of another potential GOP candidate, former state GOP Chairman Robert Graham, is slated to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
In the days leading up to Trumps Arizona trip, Senate GOP leaders have implicitly warned Trump that attacking Flake, who faces a treacherous path to reelection, would only serve to further rupture his relationship with a congressional GOP wing that hes grown increasingly isolated from in recent weeks. It came after Trump, in a tweet after the Phoenix event was announced, called Flake toxic. The president had earlier threatened to spend as much as $10 million to take out the incumbent Republican.

NOBODY in the Republican Party can win the nomination or the general election, for any office, without Trump's support or acquiescence.
It's the basis of his power. The root of all of it.
You can tell by the fact the GOP is warning him off...just like the Democrats do.
President Trump, go into Phoenix and eviscerate Flake.
And personally hand sheriff Joe his pardon.
“GOP on eggshells”
GOPe for short.
I though Politico was banned here???
I posted it in Chat, which is allowed...barely.
Flake has an 18% approval rating in Arizona. He’s toast, the only question is if he is defeated in the primary or in November.
So...the flakes in the flaky gop-e are worried that this flake, flake, isn’t being supported by President Trump. Why should President Trump support a blatant seditionist...and idiot loser like flake? Did I say he was a flake?
*You can tell by the fact the GOP is warning him off...just like the Democrats do. *
Yeah, that’s always a good ‘tell’.
Trump has to show he can take a RINO down.
Unfortunately he also should show he has the power to save a RINO too (Strange/Moore).
BTW: reports are that Freshman GOP @RepAndyBiggsAZ will be on hand for Trump rally in Phoenix.
Why, I don't know. I personally find The Washington Post to be a lot worse, like a mainstream media Huffington Post.
“GOP On eggshells...”
Evidently, “GOP” now stands for Gutless Old P*ssies.
Is ANYONE ELSE sick of these spineless twits not standing up for our President?
Not ONE of them has gone on the offense against the Dems to help our guy.
“It”, the “GOP congressional wing” came after Trump.
Name some names snowflake.
If the wusses are scared then good
The “Trumpet News” live stream on youtube shows a large crowd of various social misfits and malcontents outside the Trump rally area.
I thought McConnell had the 18 percent in Kentucky. Can I have a url to the poll you are talking about?
I read this article and couldn’t really determine who the GOP is and why they matter. When Democrats elect a President, the media I softened quoted saying, “it’s his party now.” Isn’t it Trump’s party now?
Cowardly republicans who don’t stand for anything on eggshells. What else is new?
Who, me?
You haven’t been paying attention. Disagree with the mariner if you must, but he’s nobody’s idea of a snowflake.
Most will lie their schumer off to their constituents the day before election day, then stab their supporters in the back at the first opportunity to score points with the GOPE leaders. Should they be compelled to announce a decision on a controversial bill many will vanish as quickly as an illegal who has stumbled upon an ICE picnic.
So it's clear why so few are public supporters of the President. Many have made a political calculation that to support their President does not help them get re-elected ... the thing of primary (pun not intended) importance, far above "boring stuff" like honor, integrity, honesty ... things that require commitment to principles and that don't seem to have that much to do with getting re-elected.
The curious thing is that -- at least to me -- this calculation is likely to be a miscalculation which will prevent these unprincipled politicians from getting re-elected.
