It was just Ranchero;)I’m a Chevy Guy.

Yeah, I know but the “El” just felt better.

I’m an old school GM/Chevy guy as well.

Wasn’t it Stephen Wright that also did a whole bit on “Parking in a driveway and driving on a parkway?”

The best vehicle I ever owned was a 65 Olds, Delta 88. 425 Rocket V-8, 360 HP and I believe it was very conservatively rated.

My folks bought a 64 Olds 98, but it was late being delivered, so the dealer loaned us a 64 Starfire for a road trip. I felt too cool for words.

Had a 1989 Ford Taurus station wagon for a few years that was the crappiest car I’ve ever owned, but oddly enough extremely comfortable on long road trips (as long as it didn’t break down).

1982 Chevrolet Impala, 4.3 v-6, sedan, was the family car that managed to be a camper as well during a trip from west central IL, to Longmont, CO (stayed with a brother), then to Seattle (stayed with sis), and on to the coast side of the peninsula. Came back through Yellowstone.

The wife, 2 sons (5 and 10), and myself, slept in the car 4 nights.

Sleeping in the car was not the original plan, but we heard over the radio that Saddam invaded Kuwait. So while we were just a half day westbound in Iowa, the gas prices skyrocketed. I told the wife that our gas budget was going to have to rob from the motel budget to still make the trip. On we went. And still had a great trip.

The Vibe was basically a rebadged Toyota Matrix. The new Toyota C-HR would be fairly comparable, I would think.

I grew up in a time that the consequences from my parents was greater than that of the Police.

Drinking beers etc, “Pour them out and go home”

Speeding? “Just pay more attention”

Setting aside my parents.

I was pulled over once for “Hugging the double yellow line” that is what he said. I never even crossed or even drove over my side of the line. I had this habit of driving with my left tires within inches of my side for miles on end. He apparently didn’t like that. Later, I would do the same thing at speed on winding back roads with the right side. Just to get a feel for where the edge of the pavement was. That scared the crap out of my passengers.

US route 6 in western IA? That is familiar. Lots of truckers take that instead of I-80 to dodge the Avoca DOT scales. But the diesel bears show no mercy if they pull you over for a “random” level 3 inspection, look at the bill of lading, and confirm from your origination and destination that you were not taking route 6 for the scenery.

Chevy van. I explored much of the west coast in it. Sure beat trying to find motels on the fly.

My son came home like that one time. It was back when two cars racing against each other was common. He raced home and parked in the garage. He loves cars and has always had a few muscle cars and sells cars for a living. He has also been a mechanic. Anyway, nothing happened that night.

In 1987 I had to go TDY from North Dakota to California and drove my 1985 Corvette. I deliberately took the smaller back roads through ND, SD, and Nebraska and did a lot of 100+ MPH driving.

Fun trip and getting home five weeks later I hit a straight stretch of two-lane highway (ND 200) through the middle of ND after midnight with a full moon and no clouds. It was exactly 200 miles from where I got on to US29 and I did that in 1 hour 47 minutes.
