In almost all instances actors portraying real life people look better (often much better) than their counterparts. Sometimes it is shocking to check what real life people look like after watching the actors portray them.
However there is one instance I can think of where the actor portraying a real life person was actually uglier than the person he was portraying. That would be in the movie "The Fifth Estate" about Julian Assange and Wikileaks. And who portrayed Julian Assange? Benedict Cumberbatch who looks weird and frightening. I know that Assange hated that movie. I wonder if part of the reason is that Cumberbatch has a strange face?
p.s. I think there were a few TV shows and movies about JFK in which the actor was not as handsome as the original.
Cucumberpatch as Khan Noonien Singh.
I have seen two portraits of Mary Campbell, wife of Rob Roy McGreggor. She was a stunning beauty.
She was portrayed by Jessica Lange who was a beautiful actress but I think the girl in the portraits is prettier.
Frankenstein’s Monster was certainly a lot smarter than Plugs Bite-me.
It amazes me when you are watching true crime as the actors are models next to their real life counterparts
There’s a cult of groupies who call themselves “Cumberb*tches.”
Never understood his appeal at all.
He’s Sherlock Holmes. I wouldn’t call him ugly. A little odd, different, yes.
I just thought of another case... In the movie “Last Command” a bearded Arthur Hunnicutt portrayed Davy Crockett who in real life was both clean shaven and relatively handsome.
John Kerry is uglier than Lurch from the Addams Family.
I have only seen him in specials and documentaries but John Wilkes Boothe was far handsomer than any of the actors who portrayed him.
I have never seen ‘Helen of Troy” but the actress who portrayed her in “Troy” had a face which might have launched a few row boats but not a thousand ships.
I think the real Amadeus Mozart was better looking than Tom Hulce’s depiction in Amadeus (1984). In that film he was deliberately given a less than flattering depiction because it was from Salieri’s POV and he hated him.
For Netflix Narcos nobody could have beat the real Pablo Escobar.
I dated a girl in the Summer of 1970 who was later portrayed in a movie by Virginia Madsen. I won’t go so far as saying she was prettier than Madsen but I liked her looks, at least when she was young better.
“Salieri’s Revenge”
Rosie O’Donnell when she played Betty Rubble
I agree, they did resemble the real killers.
When I lived in Western, KS, I was only a few hundred yards from the Clutter families graves.
