A cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome
Napa Valley Register ^ | 10/08/2017 | Kent Cohea

It's so painful and even disheartening for me to see the effects of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" (TDS) exposed in the letters to the editor nearly every week. Sometimes daily.(snip)

You may recognize the symptoms. They start with a refusal to accept the results of the last presidential election which intensify into vitriol, hatred, confusion, repeating misinformation, disillusionment, loss of sense and a denial of reality. Sad. So sad.

Although these symptoms already existed in many, they are made even worse by exposure to certain viruses. MSNBC, CNN and the S.F. Chronicle are among them.

Unfortunately, like the flu, these viruses cannot be eradicated and, like the flu, people need to be inoculated with a serum to help them control the effects of this devastating condition. Although I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, I have personal experience with TDS and have a suggestion. Stop exposing yourself to the above viruses for a month.

During that time take daily doses of the Wall Street Journal and Bret Baier on FOX. I know what you're thinking. Some will not take these medications because they don't trust them and certainly don't think they need them and therefore sink deeper and deeper into TDS.

But if just one person, just one, is cured, it would be worth it to see them stop having the hysterical manifestations of TDS. And that just might help others to come out of the dark tunnel of despair that is TDS, into the bright light of reality. I think that would be a wonderful and compassionate thing.

So I plead with those who have TDS, take your meds. I want to see you happy and healthy and rational again.

I think re-electing Trump 2020 would be therapeutic.

I have a sniffle.

I think it must be Winning AIDS.

Trump gave it to all of us, and I am not mad about it.

I was attracted to the headline, then to the source, Napa Valley Register, so I clicked on the source and read the piece. Amazing that life goes on, more or less, even after the devastations that hit several locales in that county.

Sure enough, there were articles about ongoing normalcy, along with articles about fire aftermath. I clicked around a lot and found a series of before-and-after pics of high-end properties, and those were certainly startling to me.

So, thanks for posting from this paper; the opinion piece offered a cute observation about TDS and its possible cure; but like the writer said, they’ll never take the cure, because they don’t trust it.

A cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome

Relocate to Europe, the Middle East or Asia. Australia will soon swing back to a Trumplike state, so avoid them.

I know political junkies on the left that are having constant anxiety attacks every time they think about anything related to POTUS.

They believe EVERYTHING the MSM says, they don’t realize they’re basically victims of propaganda “news”. They hang on to every “revelation” when it is negative against Trump only to have their hopes devastated when the opposite turns out to be true. Their biggest fault is being naive enough to keep listening, their hate compels them to hang on for the next “scandal”.

It really reminds me of drug addicts. They’re hooked and not engaging in reason.

Crackerjack point.

Yes Napa is alive. Like most disaster news coverage that makes it seem like everything was destroyed, it wasn’t. Almost all of the damage was contained to the hills. Certainly homes were destroyed (along with a few wineries) and lives lost which is a hardship for those directly affected but for most of the area things are pretty normal.

As far as the Napa Register goes, almost daily there are one or more anti-Trump letters, editorials or articles.

I was in much the same position back when Reagan was elected. The MSM constantly drummed up accusations against him, and warned us dutifully about the horrible things he was planning to do. I believed it. I was distraught that so many people had been hoodwinked into voting for him, and wondered why they couldn't see the obvious truth that he was going to launch us into a nuclear war with the USSR. Of course, back then there was no social media--otherwise, I'm sure I would have been worked up into a frenzy much like current snowflakes are.

The bad things did not happen. The USSR fell apart. The economy boomed. I still did not like Reagan (and never will; I find his speaking style *extremely* annoying). The fact that the liberal media was so wrong opened my mind to the point that when Bill Clinton was the Democrat nominee, I swore off voting for a Democrat ever again.

What I am saying here is that some of those who are deeply affected by TDS will eventually realize that they have been worked into a tizzy over nothing, and develop a sense of wisdom as a result.

So you cannot entertain the possibility that someone who was raised in an almost totally liberal environment can actually grow and change. Okay, then.

And no, I do not like Reagan, for much the same reason that I dislike Mr. Rogers (of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood), Nicholas Cage, and no doubt others that slip my mind at the moment. That is because these people have mannerisms and vocal qualities that make listening to them or looking at them almost unbearable. Have you never run across someone whose mannerisms, etc., you cannot tolerate?

You are so proud of being an ex-dem? really? You need to keep that to yourself.

Anyone, at this point, that doesn't appreciate the greatness of Reagan should be zotted off this site. Go away ex-loser.

Do you honestly think that being able to move beyond an early liberal indoctrination is an easy matter? Many people do not manage to see beyond early indoctrination ever, no matter how long they live. Being able to change one's political philosophy from one based in lies to one based on facts and evidence actually is incredibly difficult and requires a great deal of introspection, and yes, I am happy to say that I made that journey.

And if you go back and read what I actually said, instead of having knee-jerk reactions, you will see that I gave Reagan credit for the economy and so forth--even though I dislike him. I will go so far as to say that I can read Reagan's sayings and recognize the humor and wisdom in them--but if I have to listen to him say it, I'm going to start throwing things. Perhaps you cannot understand this because you have never run across people you find annoying--in which case, you are extremely fortunate, or else you completely lack whatever personality trait it is that causes some people to be annoyed by others.

Very interesting, Reagan was before my time. I agree though, I’m sure many go through this maturing process. It does make you wonder about increasing the voting age :)

The other factor is that, today, there’s far greater voices to listen to, far more opinions - and the media have completely exposed themselves in a way that I’ve never witnessed. It’s as though it’s became so obvious they’ve decided to not even hide it any longer.

...I guess the next election cycle will be telling!

I remember reading that the voting age in France at one time (1700s? 1800s?) was 24, for the reason that the French at that time recognized that people younger than that age really had not reached full maturity.

It is scientifically established that the brain is not fully developed until about age 25. It might not be a bad thing to raise the voting age.

There is a reason that some liberals advocate lowering the voting age... and also protect the "rights" of the mentally incapacitated to vote. They don't want voters who are able to think critically or are aware of the issues.

Reagan was an exdem. He went through the maturing process as well. One could make the argument Trump was too. Some of the best on our side are those who came over. :)
