Drain the education swamp: College students’ tyrannical behavior must be stopped

How many conversations have we had with our friends, family and co-workers wondering what happened to the millennials? We expect a new generation to have new ideas and new ways of approaching the world. So how do we explain when a new generation is steeped in bullying, complaining about hurt feelings, demanding “safe spaces,” and using pride in fragile egos and weakened emotional states as the excuse to condemn free speech?

There’s more than one swamp eating away at this nation. The ignorant and intolerant meltdown of students is brought to us by a “liberal” education system determined to replace teaching with propaganda and logic and reason with unmoored emotion.

One of the more recent examples comes from last week. College students in New York were thrown out of a student-run coffee shop because their “Make America Great Again” caps violated the “safe space” rules. The offending students were accused of being fascists and given three minutes to leave the premises.

More results are now knocking at our doors. The Federalist reports, “Nearly half of American millennials (44 percent) would rather live in a socialist society than a capitalist one, according to a report from the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC), which relied on YouGov polling data. Even so, there’s widespread ignorance among millennials about socialism and communism.”

They also remind us of a New York Times/CBS poll in 2016 in which 23 percent of those between the ages of 21 and 29 said Joseph Stalin, the genocidal Soviet tyrant, was a “hero.”

This is ignorance, bred by an education system with a political agenda. After all, if your students are functionally illiterate and unable to read at any critical level, then what a teacher says is the only thing that prevails. Arguments made by “the others” are,

It reflects the continuity between 1968 and today, on college campii, the Leftist tactic of trying to throw their opponent off center with charges rather than reason. It’s worked for 50 years, so why not.

This is one of the most dangerous thing for America—the education system. Kids are be radicalized and dumbed down at the same time.

We need an almost secret society of conservatives to infiltrate all manner of local politics and the education system just as the left did in the sixties.

A YUGE problem is that institutions of higher education have very few incentives to cut costs. Their management layers have bloated up. It matters not what tuition is because the money comes from the US government via the student loan programs. The students end up getting stick with debt they cannot repay. It is a wicked and cynical tax on their future earnings.

This ocean of money surging into these institutions allows them to fund all manner of progressive madness, insanity and social activism.

It is for these reasons that I think the US government should limit guaranteed student loans to no more than the average costs for the student’s major. This will provide a major incentive to cut tuition and it will tend to greatly reduce the funding for leftist causes.

Money does not grow on trees. The sooner that college aged young citizens (and voters) learn this important life lesson the better for all of us.

"Mandatory National Service for both sexes to include basic training w/live fire exercises"

And when the libs inevitably gain control of that and it becomes another leftist indoctrination program?

I don't understand why so many on our side imagine the draft, or some other type of mandatory national service, would by a panacea. The left would prioritize gaining control of any such program.

Thank the Progressives who have dominated America's so-called "education system" for effectively erasing the Framers' ideas of liberty underlying the Constitution and expressed in the Declaration of Independence for the great ignorance of those ideas among youth!

Such was not always true in America.

The following is an excerpt from the "Centennial Thanksgiving Sermon" (1886) (celebrating America's 100th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence) by a Black Ohio Legislator and A.M.E. Bishop Benjamin W. Arnett on "The Greatness of America" - Note that this Sermon is delivered only a few years after the end of the Civil War by this outstanding scholar/legislator/Bishop.

"Let us see what it is that makes us so great; wherein lies our strength. What has made us one of the greatest powers of the earth, politically and intellectually? Have we come to the conclusion that it is Righteousness that exalteth a nation? We have met to-day at the request of the President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, and also the Governor of our beloved State, Rutherford B. Hayes. For what? Why call us from our homes? Why come to the house of God? Why not go to the hall of mirth and to the places of amusement to-day? No that is not what they want us to do. We are commanded to go to our 'several places of worship, and there offer up thanks to Kind Providence which has brought our nation through the scenes of another year, and blessed the land with peace, plenty and prosperity.' Then as Americans we have reason to rejoice and congratulate ourselves on the greatness of our beloved country; at this the close of the first hundred years of experimental government of the people, by the people, and for the people. To be a citizen of this vast country is something, and to share in its privileges and duties is more than something." - Dr. Benjamin W. Arnett, 1876 "Centennial Thanksgiving Sermon" - Library of Congress - African-American Section
If current generations of youth in America go to the LOC web site and read this lengthy Address by a remarkable Black scholar of history, Ohio State Legislator, and A.M.E. Bishop, who had lived through the years surrounding the Civil War, then their perspective might be enhanced, enlarged and encouraged by their pride in such an intellectual giant from America's history.

Progressives talk a lot about "diversity." By the term "diversity," Progressives mean "diversity" of anything and everything except freedom of conscience, freedom of expression of ideas which differ from the "Progressive" agenda for "changing" America from adherence and devotion to the ideas of liberty outlined in its Declaration of Independence and structured into its Constitution for self-government.

Shame on them and all whom they control through fear!

The things we are witnessing are the consequences of decades of Progressive academic and government "elitists'" indoctrination of America away from its founding principles in the ideas of liberty and toward the cultish and oppressive ideology of Progressivism, an ideology which demands complete submission to "progressive" regressives who believe they are entitled, and were appointed, to rule over everyone else. A society where Progressives rule is a society where the ideas of liberty have been subordinated to the ideas of tyranny.

Thomas Jefferson, only days before his death on July 4, 1826, explaining his inability to attend a gathering to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration, wrote to Roger Weightman:

"I should, indeed, with peculiar delight, have met and exchanged there congratulations personally with the small band, the remnant of that host of worthies, who joined with us on that day, in the bold and doubtful election we were to make for our country, between submission or the sword; and to have enjoyed with them the consolatory fact, that our fellow citizens, after half a century of experience and prosperity, continue to approve the choice we made. may it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self-government. That form which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view. the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. These are grounds of hope for others. for ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them." (Jefferson, June 24, 1826, to Roger Weightman, End of Jefferson quotation)

Sadly, the cultish Progressives who practice groupthink and strict adherence to the tenets of Progressivism have darkened the schoolrooms of America with their lack of love for liberty and light, and their insistence upon erasing the ideas of liberty.

The problem is the institutions themselves. These students learned these values AND tactics from their professors, and the professors couldn’t do it if they weren’t approved of by the administration.

End the flow of public money to the most oppressive liberal schools, and we can already refuse to send our children and our donations to these schools.

What is wrong with college?

It’s the missing fathers.

18-year-olds arrive at college and finally find something that takes the place of their missing fathers.

because everybody on the eduction threads bemoans the lack of conservative teachers and proposes stealth infiltration or some such nonsense into the educational system - here’s a chance for them to get in on the ground floor before the libs realize whats what.

Most of these institutions receive some state and federal funds (except for Hillsdale and a couple others). So, if we're paying the bill, we have the right to ask what we're getting for our money. Answer that and we'll continue to help....otherwise go pound sand. Go private.

Places like Stanford, NorthWestern are "privates", but Hillsdale is the only one that advertises "no federal monies.", so I'll wager the Stanford types receive some federal largesse.

I'll also assume the establishment Dept. of Ed. & Deep State bureaucracies are in charge of these grants, so standards must be changed, corrected....or else. I'll bet they will before DjT is done

Enforce high academics in logic and American Exceptionalism, or no grants or other federal funding or validation for MGIB. That will scatter them to Khan Academy.

First step: Eliminate Department of Education. Shortly thereafter, push for voucher schools and make high schools and universities accountable.
