I just had to laugh. I got a job at the UV and expected if they were offering me a job as a professor they would know there was housing available for me to rent. Right?
Nah, that was too much of a stretch. No housing. Not even a rental in a ghetto in Burlington. It was late July and not one place to live with school starting in early Fall.
My only solution so that I didn’t abrogate my UV contract was a tent. I told the Dean’s representaive real estate agent I would write an article in the Newspaper discussing the fact that I would be putting up a tent in the local park with a port-a potty and heating it with oil heat if I couldn’t find a place to live to teach their very privileged students.
After six weeks of searching, an offer came from the real estate agent to the effect I could rent an apartment from a person going to South America for the winter but who would be back in April. Well, needs must...so I agreed.
By February, knee deep in snow everyday, I was looking at April as “Eviction Day”. Then suddenly I had an offer of marriage from a wonderful man from South Africa...I accepted, begged my Dean to let me go and she did so I was “saved”.
I tell this story over and over to aghast people from academia and other walks of life as an example of the snow flakes who run universities and hire innocents like me.
I am so not surprised by the BLM flag.
Thanks; as I’ve aged this has become less of an issue to me, primarily because blacks have receded from public view for the most part (in everyday life, not on TV screens). Sad to watch, but if it has gone on for the 150 years since the Civil War and 60 years since Jim Crow, I guess there will always be some “bitter clingers” to those fading memories to explain their shortcomings.
They have the whitest state in the Union; I don’t think they are the stupidest White people in America...
If they had intelligent White people living there, it would be the most Republican state in the nation (as it once used to be). They vote like they live in a suburb of Havana or Pyongyang.
There is no reason to believe a Republican government wouldn’t move half of Mexico into Vermont; Trump’s agenda is stalled by REPUBLICAN obstruction.
VT has a leftist RINO Governor who just signed off on legal dope. The stupid gets stupider.
As for GOP obstruction (RINO Establishment, to be sure) of the Trump agenda, you are correct.
Most really stupid stuff like this gets started by white liberals, not blacks, Mexicans, etc.
VT is a state dominated by libertarian principles (leading the way with that sick “gay marriage” crap), but they are more consistent than most Yankees. They have very loose handgun laws, in line with their loose laws on just about everything else. They weren’t one of the 13 colonies, and weren’t very interested in being ruled by either England via Canada or the new United States from NYC (at the time).
My initial point was that plenty of states that don’t allow “black lives matter” flags on their schools have MUCH worse problems with blacks than Vermont.
