WATCH: Major Road Rage Incident in San Diego
KOGO Radio ^ | Feb 16, 2018 | Cliff Albert

The CHP is investigating a bizarre road rage incident in the North County. Cell phone video shows a man out of his car arguing with a driver inside an SUV in the fast lane of Highway 78. At one point, the man spits into the car and starts walking back to his car. The SUV then starts to move towards the man and clips the backside of a car causing the SUV to flip over on its side, while the man drives away. It's unclear what sparked the violence, but the CHP wants to talk to those involved.

It was a perfect storm of mass, momentum, and leverage.

You are very correct.

Anyone that has done rock crawling knows how this happened.

The Escape is top heavy, anyway.

Combined with the FW drive, the angle of the climbing wheel and the angle of the opposing wheel and the approach speed, it's easy to see how, if, as I said, one has done even amateur rock crawling.

Pure physics at work.

There was a local road-rage incident involving a 23-year old gal on a motorcycle and a 60-year old guy in a car. I have no idea what started it (wasn’t in the article).

The gal was stopped in the HOV lane in traffic, and the guy (with his wife in the car) ended up stuck in the next lane. The guy gets out of the car to confront the gal. He ended up on top of the gal hitting her.

That is, until she pulled her legal concealed gun and killed him. She called 911, and she was treated for shock, questioned and sent home. This just happened a few days ago, and the police won’t say if there are any charges pending.

Almost as good as Russian tanks crossing the freeway at full speed.

Reminds me of a fight in, where was it, Sanford, Florida, where this punks jumps a neighborhood watch member and starts pounding his head into the pavement. Kind of hazy in my mind what happened to the guy who was defending himself.

Unless the SUV was in 4WD lock, the center differential should have caused the right front wheel to lose it’s rotating power and caused the right rear wheel to spin freely once that right rear wheel was airborne.

Additionally, if the vehicle is new enough, there is electronic safety built into it to actually cause the right front wheel to stop turning once the computer notices the left two were traveling at a considerably less speed than the right front. Our Subaru has it.

Is that you, Mona Lisa Vito ?

CA-78 usually locks up around College Ave for at least a short stretch. If you look in the background, you see what I believe is the Nissan dealership sign.

Main difference on Google Maps is the double yellow line in their video vs a single yellow line on Google maps, but that may have changed since the 2016 December Google image.

Too funny. The aggressor got a taste of his own medicine, and he did it himself!

But where do you get “foreign”?

I used to live off the Emerald Rd exit, just beyond this incident. Live in FL now, but each time we come back to visit our daughter in Escondido, I’m amazed at the traffic and congestion. Driving 78, which I did for most of my adult life, is now a nightmare. I don’t think there’s much than could entice me to move back there.

I don’t see how you can do this horrific traffic, day in day out.

Hope you can escape unscathed.

Best way to reduce traffic is to import as many people as possible from the third world

I used to have to do a lot of driving for 13 years in the Tampa/St. Pete area. That prepared me for this nightmare.

It's certainly not an easy situation to deal with, but as long as I have my MP3’s working on my car stereo, I can manage. :)

Oddly enough, as aggravating as it is, you tend to get used to it after a while. It took me a few years, but now it almost seems "normal". Perhaps the fact that it seems normal now to me could be described as "disturbing". :)

I think anyone who has driven in serious traffic for years can relate to what you wrote above. People are always amazed when I tell them I drive 3.5 hours a day through brutal traffic, and wonder how I can do it. It's exactly as you said, you do whatever you can in your little private space of the car and eventually you get used to it. It's either that, or you go crazy like the people in the OP. Gotta do what needs done to avoid reaching that level, whatever that is, differs from person to person.
