Scientists are warning that a deadly flu virus could hit Britain which could kill millions across the globe.
Top scientist Dr Jonathan Quick, chairman of the Global Health Council, told The Mirror that the world is overdue a catastrophic flu virus, with bird flu being the most likely source of the new, deadly strain.
Dr Quick says that the flu virus is "the most diabolical, hardest-to-control, and fastest-spreading potential viral killer known to humankind."
And he warned that vital infrastructure including hospitals, and the global economy, could all collapse under the pressure caused by a pandemic.
He said: "The most likely culprit will be a new and unprecedentedly deadly mutation of the influenza virus. The conditions are right, it could happen tomorrow."

Without reading the article, I agree with the premise.
We do have a degree of arrogance with respect to communicable diseases, in that we think we can control the spread or the outright transmission or resulting ravages.
I think it is good to keep in mind that we don’t know everything, and we could get blindsided by something nobody sees coming.
I don’t lose any sleep over it, but it is well to bear in mind, IMO.

True, but, honestly...nobody really believes it...it is like watching The Weather Channel, and they are talking about the “Storm of The Century” or whatever, and people say “Oh, boy, there’s a big storm”, but when it turns out to be a little rain and wind, everyone just says “Ah. Yeah. A little rain and wind. What’s on “American Idol?”
Imagine how relieved we would be if it were a plague that took out big swaths of Europe, but somehow it was stopped before it got here, it would be like the end of WWII for the allies.
That is why I think nobody really believes it. But you are correct, they cry A LOT of “Wolf!”

I am a sucker for post apocalyptic books and films. “I Am Legend” is on par with this proclamation that we are all gonna die by this seudo-scientist. If SHTF happens so be it. I think every day should be lived like it could be the last. It’s not easy but dwelling on that we are going to die also makes life miserable.
