My former boss at Martin-Marietta (now Lockheed-Martin) worked on the Titan program that launched Voyager I and II; seems like a long time ago....actually, it was a long time ago.

“The Voyager flight team dug up decades-old data and examined the software that was coded in an outdated assembler language”

The outdated assembly language was probably for the Intel 8080/8085 CPU.

Nope, assembly language is just as valid as the day the machine was built. These days we put layers of “translation” programing to make it easier to program, but Assembler is just a single layer above machine language. Ones and zeros.

Would be fun to program that machine.

Wasn’t there something about “Viger” coming back in an old TV show years ago?

It’s got the chips I made 30+ years ago in it. They’ll still be working when they can no longer hear it.

Assembly language - Wikipedia As a current Java programmer I believe I will have a job forever. They had to find some 60 year dude that still code read that stuff to help them fire those lost engines codes.

Lol. Learned to program in assembly. Makes people understand what happens under the hood.

“Would be fun to program that machine.”

My memories of machine coding are painful. I will pass.

“Which is even more amazing. I just started my freshman year in college when it was launched, and now I’m contemplating retirement in a few years.”

Wow. Just think, you’ve lived 13 billions miles worth of spacecraft.
