I have Windows 10 on a 11 year old laptop.
No issues so far. I use Windows 7 on a desktop as my main pc.
The spying bugs me about Windows 10.

Next they will want you to subscribe to Windows.

I use Office Professional Plus 2016 as I could buy it for $19.95 thru work which includes cd.
$9.95 to download - cannot save after install, must download again). https://www.microsofthup.com/hupus/home.aspx

If I needed an office program I would use Corel Wordperfect standard for $199 https://www.wordperfect.com/en or the free LibreOffice https://www.libreoffice.org

What’s the difference between Office 365 and Office 2016?

Office 365 is a subscription service that ensures you always have the most up-to-date tools from Microsoft. There are Office 365 plans for home and personal use, as well as for small and midsized businesses, large enterprises, schools, and nonprofits.

Most of the time when they call now, I just laugh at them derisively as soon as they say “Vindows”, and they angrily hang up.

Nothing you can do about cell towers, but you certainly don't need one if you have wi-fi at home, just set your phone to use the internet when you are home.

Give me just about any computer built since 1999, and I can run Linux on it and do ANYTHING Windows 10 can do!

Please tell me how to easily remapp remapp the CapsLock key to ctrl+c and then Esc. to ctrl+v, and NumLock to Esc (due to my arthritic fingers) and the mouse button to crrl_x. Nor what should work but will (I did a lot of searching already).

With AutoHotKey i just add this to the script:

NumLock::Esc

CapsLock::^c

Esc::^v

mbutton::^x

Thanks.

The windows 10, I think one of it’s main reasons for being created is the touchscreen.

Touch was started on Win 7 (limited) and fully implemented on Win 8. The goal for Win 10, as best I can tell, is complete cross-platform integration, which is why MS is moving heavily into ARM, which allows full Win 10 on tablet and mobile devices. Meanwhile, touch, pen and voice input work equally across all devices, something the competitors can't touch.

Personally, I think this is a brilliant strategy, akin to the move to Office 365 which brought enterprise-level licensing to individual users.

Same thing going on w/ Windows being dispersed across divisions.

No problem - used to actually teach some low level Solaris - the issue isn’t being able to learn/work a command line environment - it’s laziness. I like the thought of using a live CD to get a feel for whether or not I want to actually load the OS.

Thanks - used a dual boot configuration some years ago and it worked fine - I imagine that LINUX has also become a bit friendlier since then - had Mint recommended as one of the most user friendly versions.

Not going to waste money on wi-fi

If you have internet access wi-fi is free from almost every provider, even if it isn't you can add it yourself for a few bucks. Far from complicating your life it simplifies it considerably. Ask someone for a little technical help I am sure it is available for free, if not watch a YouTube video.

VMWare Fusion/Windows is only running on 3 of Macs - those that need to run QuickBooks.

Why are you still using Quickbooks? Look at Priority (née Aclivity) Accountedge Pro. . . works in a check based format just like Quickbooks and still has integrated payroll for those of us who prefer to keep our payroll in house. . . and it’s native MacOS, but also runs in Windows. . . multi-user as well, with a free iOS mobile device app for field access and entry. We’ve been using it for twelve years. We’ve got four different companies running on one license right now. We’ve never had a bobble or any issues with it.

We gave our accountant a free accountant’s copy which allows her to see everything we need to share. . . Not to mention tax deadlines.

I miss my Amiga. True pre-emptive OS in the 80’s on a PC. OS2 Warp shared this feature.

I do too. That was some brilliant engineering. I shed a tear when I finally tossed my Amiga 3000 in a major downsizing of the stuff I had stashed in my garage.

I will have to look at it.

My accountant (and his firm) are very QuickBooks-centric, but maybe they have expanded their horizons since last I checked.

Our big hold up from changing over is the 16,000+ items we need to track in ordering and inventory, but the ability to do both purchase orders and sales orders (orders that have been placed, but not yet completed). QuickBooks online does not (yet) offer sales orders, so we are stuck with the Premier Manufacturing Desktop version.
