"I can’t get hired because of my throat tattoo"
The New York Post ^ | Alex Green

Posted on 05/21/2018 1:25:08 PM PDT by Simon Green

A job hunter claims he has been unfairly discriminated against after he was rejected by dozens of employers over his enormous neck tattoo.

Joe Parsons, 21, got the $330 six-inch throbbing red heart with turquoise angel wings in memory of his late grandfather while he worked in a factory.

But he claims that, while he has no problem getting around 30 interviews, he has never managed to get a job thanks to his huge inking.

He has tried attending interviews wearing high-necked shirts but the tips of the wings still peek out above the collar line.

Parsons, from Manchester, England, insists he doesn’t regret getting the extreme body art but wishes potential bosses could see past it.

He said: “Before I got the tattoo people thought I was a happy, confident person. Now it feels like people think I’m full of my self and that I don’t give a damn.”

“That’s just not who I am. I’m just a normal person and all I want is a decent job.”

“There’s definitely a stigma attached which there shouldn’t be. I do think it’s a form of discrimination.”

“It’s not down to the skills I have and in every interview they haven’t given me a good reason. Now I feel like I’ve got ‘don’t hire me’ written all over my neck.”

Yep. It also disqualifies you for any nursing program also. One female student was screaming discrimination for not being allowed to continue the program. She had a very large neck tattoo. When she showed up the first day of the program they informed her that it was very likely that she would not be able to continue into the program due to her neck tattoo. They actually tried, but not one of the hospitals that accept their students would allow her to represent their facility.

She screamed discrimination and went to the dean of the college. The nursing director explained in her meeting with the dean that not one of their clinical hospitals would accept her at their facility. So there was no way that she was going to get the clinical hours and experience that was necessary to complete the program.

Now to be clear, there are students coming through the program that have tattoos, but they are to be covered and cannot be visible while you are in the clinical setting.

Maybe he should’ve thought twice about that tattoo.

Shh, don’t tell anyone but I won’t hire anyone who has a tattoo. I also would never go out with a girl who had tattoos (although it’s academic because I’ve been married for many years).

Yeah well you made a choice. Call it whatever you want but many employers don’t care for that to be their image.

It’s not so much the tattoo as the inherent stupidity that such a tattoo evidences.

I’m sure somebody along the way told you this wouldn’t be a smart idea and you knew better. I made my daughter get her tat removed.

I have no tattoos but I’ve seen some that are quite elegant and can understand the “wearing art” concept. That said, it usually involves something subtle, like flowers on an ankle. I’ve also seen R.I.P. memorials of loved ones, usually dates and a name or a picture of them, at least they have meaning and are usually on the upper arm.

Having a big bold tattoo where the meaning isn’t obvious, that isn’t pretty, on your neck where you can’t hide it is just dumb. Because it is dumb is the reason I don’t want to hire you, I QUESTION YOUR DECISION MAKING. It is that simple.

WHY are perfectly lovely ladies getting all tatted up?

I just don’t get it?

You are free to choose your actions, but you are not free to choose your consequences.

An exceptionally self-confident acquaintance said he would never get a tattoo. When asked why, he answered: “You wouldn’t put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari would you?”
