The Walking Dead Star Andrew Lincoln to Exit Next Season: Report
TV Line ^ | May 29, 2018 | Dave Nemetz

R.I.P., Rick Grimes?

Andrew Lincoln is set to exit the AMC hit drama The Walking Dead during the upcoming Season 9, according to a report from Collider. Lincoln, who stars as Rick on the hit zombie thriller, will reportedly only appear in a half-dozen episodes in Season 9 before leaving the show for good. To compensate for the loss of its primary star, AMC is reportedly preparing to offer Lincoln’s co-star Norman Reedus (Daryl) “substantial compensation” to stay with the show and assume the lead role. (AMC declined to comment when TVLine reached out for confirmation.)

The Walking Dead is a show built for cast turnover, with characters often dying in shocking fashion, but the loss of Lincoln — the face of the series for eight seasons now — would be especially tough to overcome. Just last season, many fans protested when Rick’s son Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, was killed off. Plus, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, will be starring in the new ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier, and will only return to TWD next season on a part-time basis.

They basically did that with Fear the Walking Dead, and it’s been a POS since day one.

Not quite., That's what they promised us but that's not what they delivered. With FTWD, they pretty much skipped over the entire collapse of civilization (the most compelling part) and then spent a season on a yacht. That's when I gave up on it (though I've heard it's now pretty good).

Let them try it again but this time get it right! The thing about TWD is they could have a franchise if they wanted it. It was a world-wide catastrophe. Have different casts and different locations with different challenges.

The show has sort of run it course. Many of their ‘plots’ are repetitive.

Nine seasons is more than a good run.

Negan should be made the new actor. Skip ahead in the timeline to where he brings Alpha’s head back.

I agree. At some point a running drama is nothing more than a glorified soap opera. In this case with blood, guts, and zombies.

Speaking of zombies; one would think they all would have been “mercied” by now. At least all the ones on this continent.

Like many people I stopped watching last season. The fact that the show descended into dull suck is just part of it, I think. When the show started, Obummer was taking office and everything seemed dreary and hopeless. TWD was the perfect catharsis.

Now...I am sustained by the tears of the libtards! Their rage makes me feel happy again! Thank you PRESIDENT Trump!

Same with me. I didn’t end up watching a single episode of the last season. Just got bored with it. I think it jumped the shark with Glen’s bogus escape under the dumpster.

I like Norman Reedus (”Daryl”), both the actor and the character, but I'm doubtful that Daryl can carry the series in the lead role.

Lauren Cohan (”Maggie”) is another favorite for me, but the whole story-line has become absurdly repetitive, so even if Maggie and Rick stayed, I think the show would get canceled anyway.

“Fear the Walking Dead” had a brilliant retrospective episode two weeks ago when we got to meet “Laura” (aka “Naomi”) and “John Dorrie” up close at John's creek side cabin.

Then, the wheels immediately fell off the story-line again a week ago when Alicia, and Strand, and Nick's old girlfriend decide to stage an insane face-to-face shoot out with about 25 “Vultures.”

So, what happens?

Alicia decides to shoot “Laura-Naomi” and John leaps in front of Laura and takes the bullet.

So, John, the most interesting character introduced in either series in many years, is now lying on the ground with a bullet in his chest!

I'm about to give up on both of these programs.

I know. Which mean I'll never get the masculine male leader character that I yearn for in movies and TV (and life too, lol).

I am interested in next season, because they will be doing a lot of the things I have wanted them to do for a few seasons now. Cars will be non functional any more. They will be using horses a lot. And they will be trying to build with old technology rather than still fighting over what is left.

I’m guessing the new Muslim character will get a bigger role.
Rich Grimes will be missed. Carl is missed.
I loved Abraham’s character.
Maggie will probably go next season too. She made the mistake of
asking for more money. They will kill her off too.

I’ve been waiting for them to wake up and realize they’re in Purgatory like happened on “Lost.”

The show really should have ended five years ago. It’s the nature of the entertainment industry, once they have something popular they want to milk every last cent out of it.

They signaled the ending of the show last season when Maggie made a deal with some old hippy liberal woman agreeing that if Hilltop would give the woman all of their Monkees, 1910 Fruitgum Co. and Ohio Express 33 1/3 “vinyls”, she would give them a DIY handbook on how to unstop a toilet with a plunger and how to make ice cubes out of water. It’s over.

FTWD is sucking hind wind too.
I love the new characters a lot more than most of the old characters.
I don’t blame the actors. They speak the lines they are given.
Kirkman, and his liberal writers are terrible.

Norman Reedus expressed interest and even did screen tests to join Marvel as “Ghost Rider” on TV.

Marvel was all about that, and I thought it was green-lit. They had to offer Reedus something big to break that deal. He was even excited to play it.

Better yet. Let’s just start with Day One of the Zombie Apocalypse in an entirely new location with an entirely new cast, say Denver.

They did that already. Fear the Walking Dead
