Something to entertain this weekend

ROKU users, Tubi TV is offering at no charge this movie (with Samuel L. Jackson)
"THE RED VIOLIN".
Movie synopsis
Vudu is also offering for rental.

Though some might consider this a film for females, it truly is much more and even males might find themselves intrigued. After all, Jackson is here, as well as a mystery.

The other film is from 1950 - "LAST HOLIDAY" with Alec Guinness. A remake of this film from ‎Queen Latifah was done in the past few years, but certainly cannot be compared to the first. The movie seen 20 years ago and the story is one to be remembered.
Movie synopsis
This can be found on You Tube RED, and there is a fee.
LAST HOLIDAY

Note the movie “The Red Violin”.

This is a beautiful film and it is felt you might enjoy watching. We’ve seen it twice :-)

For over the top action gore fest (with very little production value) this one is hard to beat:

Don’t need ROKU, don’t need Netflix, I have a library where I can get the DVD’s for free........And I don’t even have to go looking for them. I just place an order and receive an Email telling me it’s ready for pick up............

I thought The Red Violin was awful - depressing and sordid. Just a caveat .... I don’t remember why I didn’t like it, precisely. Perhaps bc I am a violist.

Isn’t the Roku version of The Red Violin a remake of an older film? I saw it quite some time ago and I don’t think the original can be beat.

To each his own. You call it sordid and depressing, unable to remember why.

Here, it is seen as a beautiful film, one filled with eternal love, learning, and life (how abruptly it might change).

A treasure; EXACTLY! For years the title of this gem was unknown, though certainly something worth seeking. Recently, title was found quite by accident (hopefully burned into the little grey cells) How rapidly life might change.
Understand this was his debut film.

If so, unable to find the older film.
The one on Tubi is
a 1998 Canadian drama w/Jackson

At one time when the large satellite backyard dishes were the rage, we would often watch Canadian broadcasts of indigenous movies. These were exceptional, and most so unlike that which HW was offering at the time.

Saw it when it first came out, and bought the DVD, then the soundtrack. Great story about the life of a unique violin.

seem to remember it was nominated for an Oscar or two. Know idea in what category or if it won. LOL -Oscar night has gone the way of the dodo bird in this household.

Just looked it up. It won the Oscar for best original soundtrack. It also won several other awards from various enterprises. I stopped watching Oscar night too quite a while ago, but follow the FR threads when it airs.

Thanks :-)

LOL, for all that was known, thought it might have won in foreign film category. After all, they did have subtitles in portions of the film when it first begins. Even DH enjoyed this. The story and the music. Faith, music, Communism, Love, and the fast pace of life and in seconds fate changes everything. IE, the young protege abruptly ceases in his performance. The Jackson portion reminded of the foreign film GODZILLA when it first came out in the US. Raymond Burr was added to give it an American feel. Thus, Jackson was inserted into the cast/film. Otherwise, he was invisible.

Thankfully Jackson’s appearance in the film was before he became an insufferable bore. I might not have watched it otherwise.
