Strategic Air Command.

Gen.Stewart volunteered to fly B-52 missions over N.Vietnam after his nephew was shot down doing the same. He was in his 50’s, and dished it out to the N. Vietnamese commies!

He also did some promo work for the Air Force as a reserve officer. My favorite is the explanation of the the mission of the B-58 Hustler, for the general public.

And Fonda and Stewart were good friends...

At least Fonda didn’t give a dime to Jane and Peter.

I live in the town in which he was born - Indiana, Pennsylvania. They wanted to build a big museum to him, but he didn’t want that. They ended up putting in a small museum above our town library. He really, truly was a humble man. His statue stands outside my place of employment.

Others are David Jansen, Richard Long, Martin Milner, Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, Johnny Cash, and Maude, Bea Arthur. I am sure there are others too.

One point of trivia. When Stewart appeared in Strategic Air Command as a lieutenant colonel it was a demotion from his current Air Force Reserve rank of full colonel.

Glenn Ford was another actor who joined the military in WW2, then again in Vietnam. He was born in Canada and moved to the US with his family when he was 8. Married at one time to famed dancer Eleanor Powell:

At one time Hollywood was filled with big stars who loved the US and fought to preserve it. Clark Gable, Eddie Albert, Elvis, Scotty (on Star Trek) although he was a Canadian, David Niven, it is a long list.
