"I'd like people to remember me as someone who was good at his job and seemed to mean what he said." Born to the owner of a hardware store, Jimmy Stewart dodged continuing the family business to become one of the most prolific actors of this time. Stewart was shy as a child and was interested in aviation, but his father discouraged him from attending the U.S. Naval Academy and guided him towards Princeton. It was at Princeton that Stewart became involved in acting, and began a career as a stage actor. During the depression, cinema houses were taking over stage plays, and Stewart experienced difficulty finding work. However, he eventually made the switch to Hollywood and began working in cinema. He worked on films such as Destry Rides Again, The Shop Around the Corner, and Pot o' Gold. During this time, Stewart realized his passion for aviation by logging over 400 hours of flight time as a pilot. When the U.S. entered World War II, Stewart was drafted into the Army but was rejected because he was underweight for his height. He worked with colleagues to put on the necessary pounds, and successfully enlisted with the Air Corps. He was stationed at Moffett Field, California as an enlisted man.

Strategic Air Command.
Gen.Stewart volunteered to fly B-52 missions over N.Vietnam after his nephew was shot down doing the same. He was in his 50’s, and dished it out to the N. Vietnamese commies!
He also did some promo work for the Air Force as a reserve officer. My favorite is the explanation of the the mission of the B-58 Hustler, for the general public.

Princeton guy.
Lee Marvin was wounded on Saipan, with the USMC.
And Fonda and Stewart were good friends...
At least Fonda didn’t give a dime to Jane and Peter.
And a great Republican.
I live in the town in which he was born - Indiana, Pennsylvania. They wanted to build a big museum to him, but he didn’t want that. They ended up putting in a small museum above our town library. He really, truly was a humble man. His statue stands outside my place of employment.
Others are David Jansen, Richard Long, Martin Milner, Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, Johnny Cash, and Maude, Bea Arthur. I am sure there are others too.
Bruce McGill (D-Day in Animal House), according to IMDB, is a Deplorable.
At one time Hollywood was filled with big stars who loved the US and fought to preserve it. Clark Gable, Eddie Albert, Elvis, Scotty (on Star Trek) although he was a Canadian, David Niven, it is a long list.
