“He was into Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, etc........”

Your stepfather was obviously a VERY intelligent man-——Benny Goodman was a genius IMHO.

It's weird how some of that sound is making a comeback, though. There's a band out of a small town in Michigan called Greta van Fleet - all boys. Very Zep I-ish sounding. Plant loves them.

Great drumming in the old days too.
Today, they use stupid playback loops and other electronics that are very low skilled so they can rap such great ignorance.

The ‘musician’ in the band plays a turntable! A damn turntable! Well, more to to it but... you get my point. There are great musicians out there it just takes a lot of digging.
We have become a garbage pile society where you have to dig in every aspect of our lives.

Why the acceptance of mediocrity?
I guess this has gone on for decades really but, it has really ramped up in the digital age.

That’s a MUCH simpler drum part, but she has mastered the double pedals for sure.

She’s not even playing drums lol

Very good. Kid's got good rhythm, a good ear and she's having fun. But I think THIS 13 year old girl beats her.

Very good. I'm partial to the performances of this 13 year old girl

All art, including music, has been corrupted by the communist infiltration of our country decades ago. This is not just my opinion. It’s part of the original communist manifesto.

I clicked skeptically, thinking it was going to just be more kiddie hype. But man! WOW! She is GOOD! Spot of genius there...

Maybe the best part was her laughter at the end. What a cute kid and her talent is phenomenal!

Not a drummer. Saw this a few days ago. She’s playing, period. In at least one fill she sounded late. She’s a prodigy it seems but there is a hell of a lot more to drumming than keeping up with a static, recorded performance.

She is definitely what you hear and she's excellent in the extreme and nailing it. She's a prodigy for sure, but she's had some formal training as well, evidenced by her heal-toe bass drum technique - it's not something that comes without long hours of practice and careful guidance from a qualified teacher.

I checked in on some drummer's forums and there are two schools of thought here. The first is of course admiration and the fact that she nailed Bonzo's style. The other is a slight criticism that there is no originality at all. She's too young to have developed her own style, so there's nothing to set her apart from an automaton, replicating Bonham almost note-for-note. Style only comes with maturity and years of finding your own unique voice. Those criticism's are minor, she's years ahead of where any student could hope to be.

There are many factors to a performance and if I were her jury I would ask for more dynamics, rather than full on bashing. I would like to see that original element as well, which actually comes at the end after the fade when what she plays (and notice she switches to double bass) is entirely her own. While she nails the hi-hat at the beginning, there were times when her left foot wasn't riding the pedal because she's so focused on the bass drum and perhaps her legs are just too short, but overall, that is an awesome performance. Having covered the song for most of my career (at least since 1969) it's time for me to retire.

“replicating Bonham almost note-for-note”

That is no small feat for any drummer of any age.

thanks for the analysis.
