At least three suspected rhino poachers have been killed by a pride of lions after they broke into a game reserve in South Africa.
Rangers discovered human remains around 4:30 p.m. local time on July 3 in the immediate vicinity of the lions territory at the Sibuya Game Reserve in Kenton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape, more than 24 hours after an anti-poaching dog alerted her handler that something was amiss.
The ranger however did not examine the disturbance further because it was not unusual to hear the lions at night.
When members of the anti-poaching unit investigated, they recovered human remains, a high-powered rifle with a silencer, wire cutters, an axe and three pairs of shoes.
Nick Fox, the parks owner, said the lions were shot with tranquilizer darts at first light so police forensic teams and the anti-poaching unit could comb the area for clues, and admitted it was not clear how many poachers may have been killed.
The only body part we found was one skull and one bit of pelvis, everything else was completely gone, he told Newsweek. There is so little left that they dont know exactly how many people were killed, we suspect three because we found three sets of shoes and three sets of gloves.
He added: They came heavily armed with hunting rifles and axes which we have recovered and enough food to last them for several days so we suspect they were after all of our rhinos here. But the lions are our watchers and guardians and they picked the wrong pride and became a meal.

Karma is often unpleasant.
It’s our problem freeee philosphyyyyyyyyy...
You have to put your behind in your past!
(Sorry - couldn’t resist!) ;-P
Someone please MDGA. Make Disney Great Again.
Karma's a bitch...
That’s OK, because whatever you referenced went right over my head.
It’s the chorus from the song, plus a choice misquote from Pumbaa (the wart hog).
Have a great day/evening/whatever (I’m currently in Korea on business, so my sense of time is all fouled up!)
Or maybe indigenous hunters killed by wild beasts while trying to feed their families?...
I'm retired, so mine is also.
To find out if there were any other poachers (aka lunch), just look for lions wearing boots and divide by two.
Nope.
No, it isn’t. I have told my kids for years that I would be fine with being eaten by lions, or stomped by an elephant while hunting at 90. It’s better than sitting in a nursing home, and it would make a great story for the family after you’re gone.
What if they don’t finish you off and the mangy hyenas find you?
It’s just nature’s way, I guess. Probably wouldn’t matter, although a lion would be more dramatic and a better story.
Lol! And maybe wearing any watches or jewelry they lifted off the victims.
You know this how?
Because guys who are innocent hunters just trying to get a little game don’t carry silenced big game rifles.
As long as one can pay they are welcome to hunt rhinos.
"Big game rifles" and "silencer" are meanigless.
100 yr old 1903 Springfield s or .303 Enfields are considered "big game rifles".
A "silencer" could be something whipped up in the garage out of an exhaust pipe, an oil filter or a 2 liter pop bottle.
The article implies that the hunters were going to poach a rhino and cut off the horns leaving the meat.
Pure speculation.
Maybe they were there for meat because the area outside the reserve was barren of game.
Maybe they were there to poach a rhino and cut off the horns to sell...for money to buy food or pay for medical care for a sick child.
This sounds more like Robin Hood poaching the King's deer.
Would you really take satisfaction in their deaths if that were the case?
Excuse me do you have any proof of your first statement?
Because the Sibuya Game Reserve is more a free roaming game park then anything else. You are right on the edge of Kenton-on-Sea. It is only 12 miles square.
Maybe they were there to poach a rhino and cut off the horns to sell...for money to buy food or pay for medical care for a sick child.
LOL!
I see the concept of private property is beyond your grasp Michael.
But good to see you admit that these poachers were poachers rather then guys just out of a stroll when they happened to cut the fence into the reserve and stumble inside.
