Hey Mitch! Harriet Miers would have been easily confirmed as well, but would have been a disaster!

Posted on 07/08/2018 3:43:48 AM PDT by cotton1706

Mitch McConnell doesn't have the stomach for a Supreme Court fight.

He doesn't want his democrat buddies in republican states to be cornered.

He doesn't want to upset the precious Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

He doesn't want have to pressure "suffering" John McCain to retire before the Arizona August primary so the beloved Cindy can be appointed without any political consequences.

And McConnell doesn't want another hard-line textualist on the court.

McConnell wants Trump to make it easy for him.

Notice how he ducked his little turtle head into his shell when he was being harassed, and left his wife to stand up to the bullies

In all fairness, McConnell suffered polio as a child and probably is physically not as capable as his wife in a personal toe-to-toe confrontation.

That said, a political confrontation is not "physical" and moral courage is a different matter.

Harriet Miers would have more likely voted against Obamacare.

“”””The only props you can give Mr. Elaine Chao is that he wouldn’t bring Merrick Garland’s nomination forward/for a vote, citing the “Biden Rule.” That was not only political genius (though he probably did it hoping Kasich would be the next prez), but it saved us from 2+ years of disasterous SCOTUS rulings”””””

He did it for future pre-selected queen hillary. Remember that nobody in DC thought anyone had the slightest chance at winning against the uniparty selected candidate. The election was to be a mere formality.

At least give Mitch credit for his greatest accomplishment which was keeping Merrick Garland off the Supreme Court which got us Gorsuch.

I've posted this elsewhere, but Ann Coulter in going all out for Kavanaugh kinda went off the rails on Kethledge, claiming he is an "open boarders" advocate. But she lies.

Ann Coulter's last tweet on Kethledge references Van Don Nguyen v. Holder, 571 F.3d 524

In the first place the opinion was written not by Kethledge but by Merritt. All three judges on the panel voted to reverse and did so because of a recent Supreme Court decision noting that the law requiring deportation was for "crimes of violence" and the SC has held on multiple times that this phrase is ambiguous and not well defined in law.

These three judges UPHELD THE LAW. Don't like the law, get Congress to pass a new one. And they did so applying the 2008 Decision of the SC which SCALIA WROTE. The judges here explained:

Justice Scalia recently explained in Santos that the rule of lenity prevents courts from having to "read the mind" of Congress and is a "venerable" requirement that the federal courts have applied for two centuries when interpreting ambiguous criminal statutes. When a criminal statute is ambiguous as to its intent, the "tie" goes to the defendant. Because we cannot find that auto theft is "unambiguously" a crime of violence under Section 16(b), we should follow the ancient rule and overrule the administrative agency in this case..

Ann Coulter is an interesting person, but I think a person is well-served if he goes through life without ever taking the advice of Bill Maher’s ex-girlfriend on any matter.

(I can't believe I'm defending McConnell.) He was under awesome pressure - from the left AND right - to bring Garland forward for a vote. The MSM, Schumer, 16 Republican/RINO senators agreed to meet with Garland, BHO via The Wall Street Journal, and yet he stood his ground. Regardless of the reason, we got Gorsuch (thankfully).

McConnell is part of the DC Swamp problem, no doubt. Indeed, I STILL am not 100% sure why he put the kabosh on Garland...it certainly wasn't love of rules, it wasn't that he secretly hoped Trump would win, and maybe he really did want Hillary to win. Maybe Obama did something that REALLY got to him and he took this opportunity as payback.

RINOs don't like to appear partisan....they work for the Uniparty. That's why, for me, for McConnell take all that abuse in public (and probably in private) AND to go down in SCOTUS history as a figure with a cloud over his head over this nomination saga is VERY uncharacteristic.

Thus, I praise McConnell (R-Swamp) in this limited instance the same way McCain (R-Keating Five) is rightly trashed for his legislative service but is positively acknowledged for his war service.

Judge Moore was a bad choice. Who let his wife talk in front of a crowd? Big mistake.

Judge Moore campaigned on a promise not to support Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader. Anyone who criticizes McConnell for working against Moore is being completely disingenuous.

Given that he's got to deal with Flake, McCain, Collins and Murkowski and, even, Rand Paul and possibly can only lose a couple of votes, I don't think there is anything nefarious about his recommendation to Trump.

Not at all, Mitch McC and his Kentuckians sabotaged Judge Moore without proof of wrongdoing.

That was because Moore was a threat to him.

Another David Souter or Anthony Kennedy would be a threat to McConnell's career as well.

Uh, no. McConnell cannot simply snap his fingers and force Collins and Murkowski into line. He has to either persuade them or find a dem replacement. It would help if McCain would resign, but only if his replacement is a solid vote for confirmation which Cindy may not be, and Cindy may be McCain's price for resigning.

Yeah, it's easier to stamp one's feet and say all McConnell needs to do is man up, but that doesn't get us to 51 votes.

The sad part is that *every single ‘Rat* senator will vote in lock step with Schmucky, even red staters like Manchin and Donnelly. Hopefully voters in WV, IN and other red states keep that in mind this November.

If you don’t have a pick who is hotly contested by the entire rat party and many Uniparty hacks in the GOPe you have made the wrong choice. DJT is in the perfect situation to flip up to five Rat senators to yes votes to keep their re-election hopes alive. Yes you will lose two or three of McConnell’s GOPe allies but Trump can still get us the right SC justice. Screw McConnell, he and his ilk have used this BS lie to ruin many of the Republican picks over the last few decades.
