Because of the roaming PIT BULLS in our neighborhood we carry a 38, pepper spray and a sturdy stick when we walk our blue heeler/stubby tailed cattle dog. Pit Bulls are the favorite of scum to abandon when they pack up the pickup truck and move.
I’ve seen lists of dog-caused casualties and seen St. Bernards ranked higher per woofy capita.

Why abandon one, when they would just have to get another pitbull when they arrive wherever they went?
But if there are feralized dogs around, they ought to be reported to animal control.

There are other breeds that are (per breed) more commonly associated with fatal attacks. What we don’t see is how common each breed is overall.
Big dogs like malamutes and St. Bernards are obviously large all over, including their heads and mouths. The pit bull is only a medium sized dog, except for its head and mouth which are clownishly large. But a bite from one is not funny. This would tend to make the pitbull easier to underestimate. They should be treated with the same respect as malamutes and St. Bernards.
Again I like cats. Their mouths are small. Though I had one almost bite a finger off once. I still have the trick knuckle to show for it.

We have a neighbor who was an airborne Ranger in 2004-7 in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is all i will say about him. I was not there but he and his young daughter were out by the pool enjoying the sun. Ranger sees the pit come through an open gate running at his daughter. He was trained at this but he subdued that bastard by coming in on top and from behind and uses his extended thumb ,in the throat, to break that dogs neck. Thank GOD!! No more pits here and the owner was nowhere to be seen. Ranger put that evil caucus in the Dumpster. Amen.
Bet you’re all cool with malamutes and St. Bernards. Even though a bite from either is odds-on more likely to kill you than a bite from a pitbull is. Being a Scooby snack stinks.

Sorry, that’s not how it works. If you want animal control to take care of the dog you must catch it and call them to pick it up. If you (dangerously and stupidly) catch it and take it to animal control they will charge you $50 to take it.

The hysterical response of pitbull apologists include pitbull puppy mills [ these dogs are way cheaper than other breeds), vetenarian groups and shelters who want to get rid of them.

Animal control is overwhelmed with Pits. My understanding New Orleans will not take them an more.
