I prefer a desktop with a full size keyboard and decent size monitor...and decent speakers to play my tunes while i surf or do other tasks.

so contrary to your snide hints

Thanks for the additional and useful information, but what part of " entry-level laptops" can you not comprehend?

It something I’m considering as the Chromebook I was using at home conked out a few weeks ago. I have an iPad 2 around the house, but it’s mostly used as an entertainment device by my six-year-old son (we don’t have a TV or game console). It works quite well for that.

I think I like the basic ergonomics of a non-touch laptop better than a tablet though. A good keyboard and trackpad are a real pleasure, and the clamshell also serves the function of keeping holding the screen in place. A tablet you need to hold it up somehow. But in terms of the internal computer, so long as you’re not using any programs that require Windows 10 or MacOS, I think an iPad Pro would get the job done.

Not if you’re taking the online course I am currently teaching. You need MS Office

It really irritates me when I send my clients documents for their review and all they have is a phone.

MS Office 365 installs on an iPad.

At home I use a 24” Acer LED monitor and a home brew desktop. I want a big big big screen. No way am I going to use a small screen crappy iPad no matter how revved up it is in processing power. I also have two laptops 15”/17” to use at home and office.

I will admit that if you are very mobile due to work requirements then ipads can work out great. On the go etc etc

Where do I plug in the 6 appliances that are plugged into my desktop? My chargers, heart monitor?

Does that include the 2008 era $6000 digital projector I use? My non-Apple stereo speaker system?

And, do I have to go to the ITune store every time I want to take a leak?

Can’t use 365 with MyLab products. Very frustrating.

downsizing to the iPhone has been an enjoyable experience.

My macbook is now over ten years old and I can't download the newest versions of software any more, and stuff is starting to not work without those downloads. The mac has been my music recording/studio platform for ten years, and it was great having many multiple ports, both USB and analog, but the hardware has reached a dead end.

But I do have the newest iPhone and it comes with enough memory to take care of whatever garageband projects are coming up. Trouble now is lack of inputs so you have to go out and get a Roland piano/keyboard with bluetooth. Anything to justify getting another keyboard is cool in my book. :^)

Getting old is hard! But I stay connected to 12 grandchildren w/my iPad. And lemonade isn’t bad if you add enough sugar! 🙂

Swordmaker, I have some more specific questions for you maybe even on a different thread however I know you bought the 2019 iPad Pro, 12.9”, as I did. It’s fabulous though I admit I’ve not yet exploited its many options. I’d love to hear your review.

I was hoping this thread would offer a real discussion of this topic based on the latest iPad Pro technology because it’s something I am currently struggling with as my MacBook Pro is a late 2011 model. I love this new iPad, I’m an artist and it is great with the pencil. I also have the new iPhone XS Max which I use for my photography and edit almost exclusively on Enlight app, about as powerful as Photoshop.

To all, please take about 12 minutes to watch this YouTube video extremely well done about can iPad Pro replace your laptop:

I don’t do FB on iPad.

I use FR alot on iPad and frequently have problems. Don’t even see a pattern yet. Just seems difficult in general.

But isn’t there a MS office available for iPads?

Yes you can, but only the screen will plug in. Everything else is Bluetooth.

It doesn’t work with the software we are using. It’s going to be a fun semester.
