The two were described as male skiers who were "caught in an avalanche at Kachina Peak at Taos Ski Valley," Taos County Emergency Medical Services Chief Christopher Medina said by email.
The avalanche was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m., according to a statement from Chris Stagg, vice president of Taos Ski Valley, Inc.
"An in-bounds avalanche occurred on the K3 chute off of Kachina Peak at Taos Ski Valley," he said. "The ski patrol and nearby witnesses immediately responded to the scene and rescued two skiers who had been buried by snow."

Taos broke me in 1977 on Als Run which was quite new then
Ski binding broke off and planted in my mouth and jaw
I was suppose to be at Ole Miss registered for spring but instead we were skiing like banshees at Taos a week into classes intending to register late
Girl angel ski patrol...beautiful like they were back then like stewardesses carried me down the slope under lifft audiences and the lodges
This slope is why there is a sign at the bottom of Taos that says dont worry youre seeing only 1/30 of Taos skiing
They ended up taking to to a maxiofacial in Santa Fe where my aunt and uncle lived and called dad in Mississippi
Man was I in trouble
My uncle was a former WWII Jolly Roger major flight leader and was actually sympathetic
Anyhow
Taos can be challenging
I dont ski now but if I did Id be at Silverton heliskiing near Durango Telluride..thats the new North American benchmark
Vail back bowl rocks too
And Jackson Hole
And to be fair Killington and Stowe both have scary runs
I notice its less babe oriented than tha old days now
Man the ski patrol girls at Aspen and Vail back then were all solid 8.5 and up
Tan with white white teeth and they wore basically thick yoga pants then like Jean Claude Killy or Franz Klammer wear
Baggy ski pants were for Texans
Anyhow ...
Ive woke up from near dead ....in the blue light lit ethereal ICU after open heart when they pull the ventilator and Im juiced on dilaudid
And first thing I comment on my nurse if shes hot..
And frequently they are..
Wifey warns them.....hes gonna love you
Its my nature....girls have been my raison de vivre since 1977 and even before
The front four at Stowe are my absolute favorite runs.
Tough memories, but meaningful ones of life lived lustfully and with the full proper vigor of youth.
we get too soon old and too late smart
“Two skiers buried by New Mexico avalanche in critical condition”
Were they democrats?
“And first thing I comment on my nurse if shes hot..”
If you wake up in a tent in the ICU you’re going to be ok.
“I dont ski now but if I did Id be at Silverton heliskiing near Durango Telluride”
You probably remember a 1970s film short by Mike Hoover that featured him as a solo climber on El Capitan- the short is titled “Solo”, won some major film awards. Whenever I hear about heliskiing I think about a crash he was in that made the news, killed his wife, Disney’s president, and the pilot. I think the copter engine sucked in some snow and stalled.
Went to Taos with friends in ‘82. It snowed 40 inches the night we got there. The snow was so dry you couldn’t make a snow ball. By the end of the day, I knew I was going home. - Stayed for 5 years.
You are so cute. Like Maurice Chevalier without the accent. Pepé le Pew without the stink. Just a man who loves women!
I was riding up the lift there around 1980 and saw a begineer go airborne over a mogul on Al’s Run and he landed about five feet up in an tree and just stuck there.
