Is that right? Are french fries linked to cancer?

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Americans love French fries. Every year, on average, we devour 30 pounds of the crispy fried potatoes.

But studies are now proving they aren’t good for you. So what about those claims that French fries are causing cancer?

Many recent news reports say that French fries are not only bad for you, they’re linked to cancer. The cancer claims are tied to scientific studies of acrylamide, a substance produced when starchy foods, like potatoes, are heated or, in this case, fried.

The United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) warns “acrylamide has the potential to cause cancer in humans.”

According to the American Cancer Society, while lab animals given high levels of acrylamide did develop cancer, “based on the studies done so far, it’s not yet clear if acrylamide affects cancer risk in people.”

Still, the studies are enough for the International Agency for Research on Cancer and EPA to list acrylamide as a “probable human carcinogen.”

So while there’s much more work to be done to be conclusive, if you said French fries are linked to cancer, you’re right.

McDonald’s fries were better when they were fried in the fat rendered from dolphins and Gentile children.

"Remember - the extra 6 months of life saved by dropping french fries will be tacked on to the end of life - so YOU win 6 extra months in a nursing home drooling in your oatmeal..."

Well I for one fantasize about having my nursing home diapers changed by cute young nurses, but failing that, I like my fries with malt vinegar. 🍟

I want to know why fast food fries turn into sharp hard sticks when cold but fries I make at home get soft and floppy when cold. I’m using real potatoes, are they? I suspect some kind of formed, Styrofoam type potato product is cut up instead that-when fried- melts into an inedible projectile.

The best thing to avoid heart disease is run.

Not walking, not cardio, not bicycling, not weights, but running is shown to be the best insurance against heart disease. If you have not yet bought a home, buy it near a big park.

The idea is to have your body huffing and puffing, heavy breathing. Do not run marathons, that defeats the benefit.

How many people, besides sex, and for how many years, have NEVER had their body to the point of deep, heavy breathing?
How long has it been?

If not, no gasping for air, then your body does not even know it is still alive. Lol.

Try the McDonalds side salad once in awhile.

I had a very bad experience from eating a fast-food joint salad. I spent three days in absolute hell getting to know my toilet better than I ever wanted to. I'll stick with the fries, thank you, though only rarely.

We just cut up some potato’s shaped like fries and roast them in the oven. Dip them in ketchup and mayonnaise! And a cheeseburger to go with them.

I can link air and water to cancer if I want. Everyone who has gotten cancer has drank water and breathed air. Tell me that, that isn’t a strong link. But I’m just saying take these results with a grain of salt. Oh, that’s one more thing everyone that has had cancer can be linked too.

French fries cause climate change too.

I read that on the Internet, so it’s gotta be true.

Oh great, the side salad prepared by the illegal alien who can't read the sign in the toilet telling him/her/it to wash hands after using the john.

Jim Fixx was a long distance runner. The benefits of running revert back to no exercise, by doing marathons. And it makes sense. Overdoing anything is bad. We learned that from the story of Goldilocks.

NFL players overdo exercise and their ankles are shot.
Schwartzenegger was the world’s winning bodybuilder who would be dead if not for a pig skin heart.
Overeat, you get fat.
Over videogame, you become socially handicapped, and blind.
Over play loud music, you get deaf.

How many folks have back problems, from over bending incorrectly.

Healthy running is about 2 miles or less.
5 miles is dangerous. Moderation is common sense.
But pushing your breathing to the heavy side, for a few moments, without overdoing it, is the key.
Your body wants that, badly. The whole body joins in.
Live long and prosper.
