Before reading this story, I knew it was about United Airlines, because of the way they abuse passengers and kill animals.

For what it’s worth, last month my wife and I visited her home country, the Philippines. For me the most pleasant part of the trip was the flight with Korean Airlines, from Manila to Incheon, South Korea. That was the only flight where I had all the leg room I wanted, though I was in coach.

About 10 years ago, by son taught ESL in Korea. He flew Korean Airlines a few times and raved about them.

Should have paid the extra $100 so she could pick a seat or just drove.

My uncle is 90 and has been hundreds of pounds overweight for years so he drives everywhere instead of flying. But it is over 2,500 miles on the highway between Vegas and Newark which would take most people several days, so the motel rooms would be more than the airfare.

I refuse to lift armrests for anybody I’m not related to. MY seat is wholly paid for by me and is reserved for ONLY my buttocks. I don’t care how uncomfortable the other passenger is.

That armrest is like a seawall. Holding back the sea of fat.

Reason #16 why I haven’t flown commercial since 1996, when TWA800 was shot down. If I can’t drive there, I don’t need to go.

when purchasing a ticket the airline should ask weight

Should be a requirement in order for crew to perform the required weight and balance calculations correctly.

I was on a flight to Houston and sitting next to an extremely large woman.

I made no complaints...I’d sooner die than make a loud complaint that some poor woman was so huge I could not sit next to her.

The stew came back and told the woman there were several empty seats in first class and would she like a free upgrade.

She took the upgrade and was much more comfortable by herself in the larger seat.

This was the right thing to do :-)

I just flew back from a 3 week trip to Southeast Asia and splurged on points, going in first class on Cathay Pacific. It was wonderful. Caviar and lobster, and I was actually able to get a good nights sleep!

One more reason to use air transportation only on emergencies. I stopped flying in 2004.

I’m 6’3” and weigh about 275. Weight gain has been mostly from side effects of Lupron injections for treatment of metastatic prostate cancer. Other than the belly fat from the Lupron injections, which I am addressing with a Keto diet. Goal is to get down to about 230#.

When I fly, I try to get an aisle seat; and I don’t have to lift an arm rest. I always leave the arm rest for the middle seat down. I refuse to intrude into the space of my seatmates. I may have to scrunch up my shoulders a bit because I am naturally broad shoulders, but that is my duty as a responsible person, and I had to do that before I was diagnosed with cancer.

What sort of plane do you have?

I keep toying with the idea of getting am old Barron 58...I love the huge side doors.

I’d put in the Garmin glass cockpit.

But it would probably just end up a hanger queen so what’s the point....plus it’s too much money really for our situation.

I’m always looking though.

I just watched the video. The woman was leaning out towards the window and the man ways leaning out towards the aisle. They are very big, but neither was intruding into her space. Both armrests were down and neither was intruding into her space either above or below the arm rest.

Yeah, they are big, but they seem to know it and intentionally did what needed to be done so as to not to take up any space of the woman in the middle. The guy wasn’t even using the arm rest.

A few years past, my spouse and I were on a flight and as is our case, because he sleeps from before takeoff until just before landing, he takes the middle seat.

This flight, I was next to the window, then my husband, when a huuuuuge young black woman indicating she was in the aisle seat and grabbed the arm rail up and attempted to sit down (a feat in and of itself!)

Husband immediately is alerted that in order to sit in the seat, this young woman needed 1/3 to 1/2 of his seat, whereupon he loudly pronounces, “You can’t sit there!”

He then snags the flight attendant, who was pretending not to notice any kind of a problem. He asked to speak to the flight attendant in charge, since the helpless one merely rolled her eyes and tried moving toward the back of the plane.

When the “boss lady” came over and demanded to know “what the problem” was. My husband demanded what the airline planned on doing, since he “didn’t pay for half a seat but a full one and for this lady to sit down, she needs half of my seat?!”

The “boss lady” demands “what do you expect me to do, the flight is sold out!” My husband asked if there are any seats in First Class, as she could move one of us there! She sniffed and said, “You didn’t pay for first class, you paid for coach!”

He said, “You could give her that seat, they’re larger there and she’d be more comfortable there!”

She refused, stood there with her hands on her hips and said she had to finish and shut the door so the plane could move back and take off. (Today, she’d have called security and kicked him off the plane under armed guard!)

The very large young lady looked like she was ready to cry and I felt bad but we had a big problem and come to find out, her skinny mom and sister were sitting together further back in the plane and finally, the sisters traded places but only after lots of stress, caused mostly by the “boss lady” who really resembled “Muchelle my Belle Obama” in appearance and sista attitude!

The airlines really have problems here as they’re making planes smaller and adding extra rows inside to sell more tickets but when favoring extremely obese passengers over passengers within normal weight.

How do they claim, on the one hand, the plane can’t leave with arm rests up and demanding the overweight need arm rests up to squeeze up, claiming seat space from fellow passengers?

If you hadn't, a flight of that link would be unpleasant at best.

I was scrolling down hoping I’d see where someone actually took time to notice the body language of all 3 passengers.

Finally, you mentioned what I saw! She was simply egging on to egg on them.

When the stewardess approached the complainer she got all ‘scrunched up and tiny,’ and started whining like the liar lady at the hearing for Judge K. Cannot believe NO ONE caught that change in her voice and demeanor.

LOL

What sort of plane do you have?

We have an ultralight plane and a Cherokee 140 with 4 seats and a Lycoming O-320. It is a very economical airplane. It carries 48 gallons of “usable” fuel in the tanks so it can fly considerably further between fuel stops than a Cessna 172. If you reduce the speed to 100 mph and lean aggressively the O-320 can get down to around 5 GPH.

I have an engine scanner installed but no longer have any real desire to spend a lot of money for the latest avionics. Especially these days when you can get a lot of remarkable aviation navigation apps for your tablet or phone. I spent thousands of dollars for a King KLN 90B IFR certified GPS for it a long ago... in hindsight it was one of the biggest wastes of money ever

An old Barron 58 would be a great plane but it would cost you an arm and a leg to purchase, fly and especially maintain. And that is not to mention that they are a handful to fly and land compared to a super simple plane like the Cherokee.

In the meantime the two guys in question are saying, “All right! Empty middle seat!”
