Tick dip/bath and collar....supplemented with tweezers ....
If your dog has ticks and he cusses too, I would have him checked out for Tourette’s Syndrome.
My dogs dont get ticks at my house/ yard. Fleas? Maybe once a year. At that time I put the neck poison on. Now they sell this oral medicine called bravecto. You give it to them orally every 4 months and fleas and ticks wont habitate on your dog. I cant imagine a pill that will make your dog not get parasitic bugs can be any good for them.
only if theyre nervous ticks
I did some research on this after the FDA issued a warning for several Flea & Tick tablets. One was the tablet that I have used on my little mini Dachshund, Bravecto.
So, I thought, maybe I can use a collar on her instead.
There are two types of collars, those that have a med that kills the fleas and ticks, and those that cause the fleas and ticks to jump off without killing them.
The second type would probably leave me with fleas and ticks on me and the carpet and more. And the first type wouldn’t work for me because my dog sleeps on my lap while I watch TV, and sleeps with me in my bed. So I would be endangered by the chemicals on the collar. The warnings on the labels of those collars say DO NOT let your dog on your bed with you.
So, that leaves me needing a tablet. I talked with our vet, and she said they have never had a patient that had any problems using Bravecto. So, I went to the vet’s and bought one. The lady at the counter said they did have one patient who vomited after taking Bravecto, but that dog throws up everything new. That dog has had no further problems from the Bravecto.
So, if your vet agrees, go with Bravecto. It’s about $60 for a tablet that lasts 3 months. That’s about $20 a month. I don’t give her Bravecto during the winter, so that means either 2 or 3 a year, depending on the weather for that 12 month period. In other words, $10 to $15 a month.

“Dogs should not eat garlic.”
completely untrue.
I like DE. you can dust your animals too. It’s a mineral and won’t hurt them but kills the fleas and ticks.
none of that is true.
I use the Ceresto flea and tick collar. Last eight months. Cost sixty five dollars for a eighty pound dog. We take daily walks through woods and pastures and have only seen a couple of ticks and no fleas in 5 years now.
Vacuuming also is a major threat to fleas...
Splane.
I have and my dogs love eat, have eaten it for years and have no issues at all.
there are alot of lies out there and unfortunately many vets are like many mainstreams md’s...completely clueless.
onions, garlic, grapes and chocolate are completely fine for dogs. just like for humans. rumors kick up on the internet and people can tend to run with it but dogs can eat exactly what we eat, without issues.
No. Big friggin posters in the veterinary office. Do vets post rumors? Perhaps. I believe them myself
at your own (and pets) peril
No ticks and she smells very nice.
Please enlighten us. Im not a veterinarian and I dont play one on TV. They use pigs for a human analog when doing research on medicine. Dogs and cats arent close enough.
On cats and dogs they dont need an analog. They use dogs and cats. Yes
There are politics in veterinary sciences as there are in human medicine. It is something to watch for. But what benefit would a vet get telling you it is unsafe to feed your pet onions, garlic, raisins and chocolate? It makes no sense not to heed the vets recommendations on this.
what benefit does any medical professional get when giving bad advice? they ALL give bad advice way too often.
perhaps you’ll rush your beloved dog to the vet ($$) if they eat a grape?
dogs can eat anything we eat. period.
