David Hedison, who starred in the original sci-fi classic “The Fly” and appeared in two James Bond films, has died. He was 92.
He died Thursday in Los Angeles with his daughters at his side, a representative for the family, Jennifer Allen, said in an email Monday.
Hedison portrayed Capt. Lee Crane in the long-running sci-fi television series “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” and Spencer Harrison on the daytime series “Another World.”

The Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea tv series started out great with cool adventures. Then, the plots started getting stupid. Even as a kid, I could see the special effects were limited by budget.
Richard Basehart was Ishmael in the classic version of Moby Dick.
Yeah. The phrase, “jump the shark” had not been a meme yet. But looking back, that is what they did.
My wife and I are binge watching “Burn Notice” right now, and they did that with Season 5. Suits did it with season 4 - it went from courtroom and legal drama to soap opera. But both of those shows redeemed themselves in later seasons.
It seems that writers just run out of ideas. It got so bad with Burn Notice that sometimes the characters would just do something totally out of character and I knew they had to, to move the plot where the writers needed to take it.
Set the course for 2-4-0, Mr. Ware.
Not a huge movie fan, but I loved this one, seeing it several times on TV back in the day. Curt Jergens was good, too -- classic battle of military wits!
Had the toy version of the sub in the 60’s and was probably the coolest toy I’ve ever owned (except for my huge Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica). I remember taking the sub to swimming pools at hotels during vacations and letting it swim around while also trying to protect it from other kids. I think it was eventually stolen. Drat.
Enjoyed his work. RIP.

That weird gigantic seaweed creature that grabbed the submarine, and which they never explained! As I recall I was young enough to find it scary and creatively interesting rather than lame.
Loved the series as a kid.
As I remember there were two guys Kowalski & “the Chief” who were kind of like South Park’s Kenny. every episode they were captured by aliens, captured by monsters, eaten by monsters or turned into monsters. Captain Crane & “the admiral’ would figure out a clever solution and get them out of it. Then next episode the whole cycle repeats!
He also guest starred on “The Love Boat.”
Great movie. Robert Mitchum was a great actor. One of my favorite movies is “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison”...:)
I think I felt much the same as his character did in that movie...being physically attracted to a nun!
About as bright as TNG enterprise with all those windows.

Ahhh Kowalski. That guy had a skull made of hardened steel. It seems like every week he was being smashed on the back of the head with a giant wrench.
Skull fractures? Brain bleeds? Concussions? Traumatic Brain Injury?
Not for ole Kowalski. Back to work by the end of the episode with the mandatory white bandage around his head.

I always wondered why the sub never had circuit breakers to protect their electronic equipment from exploding every time they hit an underwater “bump”.
These were the unclassified files that were told on the show. Imagine the classified adventures they had.... : )
