Back in 2005, not long after we moved into our current house, there was a hurricane, Dennis.
We thought we had moved into a rather mature neighborhood, since we saw no children of any ages playing in the streets around our neighborhood.
The electricity was off for several days and the streets were filled with children! No computers, no cellphones, no video games!
When the electricity came back on, they all disappeared again..............
Schools here used to ban cell phones.
That ended on 9/11/2001 when large numbers of parents freaked-out about not being able to reach their child.
I love this commercial on tv showing a family riding in a car and no one interacting with each other, because they all have their own separate media that they are engaged in.
“They would have the students take a photo of the materials on the chalkboard or screen.”
This way the students don’t have to learn to take notes or employ their own memory.
We’re even seeing them play hopscotch and the old favourite, duck duck goose...
That reminds me. I have a competition this weekend.
The temptation to use it is too great and it is very distracting.
We all went to school without our parents being able to call us and we were just fine.
An emergency will be forwarded by someone at the school office.
And there shouldn’t be that many emergencies in a week or a month.
NO ELECTRONIC Device of any kind should be Allowed in Schools, Learn to use a slide rule, pencil and paper, like we did.
Surely schools that teach fist f******, the mechanics of gay sex, and provide abortions and referrals to sex-”change” specialists, can interfere with the kids’ rights and make them put away their smartphones for a few hours.
I guess I’m confused. How are students supposed to learn of they can’t text each other?
Technology is great, but can be a major distraction to learning especially for high school age kids. Im all for banning smartphones in school. Concerns by helicopter parents that they cannot contact their kids are bunk
Our Friend’s Daughter is a Middle School Teacher.
She collects all the Cell Phones from Students on their way into the Classroom. She makes sure they turn them off beforehand and they get them back on their way out the door.
There is a Simpsons cartoon episode where this happened and the kids go outside and play with classical music playing in the background.
