Taulia Tagovailoa ‘Driven’ By Competition And Is Ready To Fight To Be Alabama’s Starting QB
TD Alabama Magazine ^ | 1-10-2020 | Steven M Smith

In his exit from the University of Alabama, Tua Tagovailoa made one thing clear at the podium: there is still another Tagovailoa at the program.

With his brother pursuing the NFL Draft, Taulia Tagovailoa carries the mantle in fighting to be the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide.

Since the younger Tagovailoa thrives so much on competition, the idea of having his brother already at Alabama never deterred his decision to come.

His arm talent and his influence may not be at the elite level yet; however, his toughness is.

Tagovailoa played through injuries at Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.) and still tossed for 3,728 passing yards with 35 touchdowns in 2018, leading the Warriors to a Class 7A State Championship Game as a senior.

Taulia, like Tua, set passing records in high school and was a highly-touted quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

He threw his first career touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith versus Western Carolina last season and while Bryce Young is the name that fans are excited for, Galu Tagovailoa has one message for everyone.

As the father of two talented sons, he believes Taulia is about to step out of Tua’s shadow and prove he can lead the program.

After seeing his eldest son announce his move on Monday, Christina Chambers of WBRC Fox 6 News caught up with Galu Tagovailoa.

It will be different not having his brother with him, but the patriarch said Taulia loves competition.

24 hours after @Tuaamann declared for the #NFLDraft, I caught up with the @dtagovailoa today…..Galu opens up about how @tauliaa12 is ready to compete for starting QB job at @AlabamaFTBL . pic.twitter.com/BchecxkEUO

I've read thatTaulia wants to be called 'Lia'.
(Sounds like Leah)

Looks like tough competition ahead:
Bryce Young Is A Natural Successor To Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama Football)

BTW, I read yesterday that Tua had six surgeries while playing at Alabama.

Taulia? Sounds like a chick name. :D

Come to think of it, that’s my three month old granddaughter’s name. Talia.

Methinks little brother was part of a package deal.

Doubt he will ever see the field as a starter unless Alabama has a rash of injuries at the QB position.

"Mac Jones looked pretty good."

Yeah. I think (presently) it is his job to lose.

For what it's worth, 2-3 weeks ago I noticed that LV odds makers had Jones listed as #3 on the probable 2020 Heisman Trophy winner list.

"Are these Samoans?"

Yes, Samoans from Hawaii.

Very, very strong Christian family.

The Whole family moved to Alabama when Tua signed up with Saban.

Taulia went to HS in Alabama after the family moved and took a (never done anything) HS to a state championship.

Wonderful family. They struck a chord with Alabama fans and are real popular here.

I think Kyle Trask may be up there next year, as well.

One of the Alabama QBs will transferring to Mississippi State at the end of the 2020 season.

Mike Leach turned Gardner Minshew into a starting NFL QB in just one year. He could do the same with one of the QBs who don’t win the starting job.

Methinks little brother was part of a package deal.

"Taulia officially signed his Letter of Intent after a number of schools, including LSU and Tennessee, made a late push."

Doesn't sound like he's a mercy scholarship - he was being recruited by other SEC schools.

Doubt he will ever see the field as a starter unless Alabama has a rash of injuries at the QB position.

From the same article: "Like his brother coming out of high school, Taulia is one of the top recruits in the country. Taulia is rated a four-star recruit on both 247 Sports and Rivals. 247 Sports ranked Taulia as the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the country."

Thanks.

One of our younger relatives went De La Salle High School out here on the West Coast. He didn’t play football but got a couple of athlete letters in other sports.

A couple of years ago De La Salle High School got their butt beat by a Catholic School in Texas.

We ask our younger relative what happened.

He said the answer was simple, the other school had more good Samoans than his school did.

He was all ways in great shape, he said the Samoans who attended his high school were the best and the most driven athletes he had ever seen and great people.

I don’t see how leaving Bama early helps him except in the pocketbook. He is not ready, if I were his friend I would tell him to hone his skills another year. If I were Cincinnati, I would look elsewhere for a QB. Trade the pick and get a bunch of picks back, plus maybe a #1 pick and get the kid from LSU. HE is the real deal.

Provide proof or shut up. You are projecting.

It is your own illiterate, inbred coach who pulls those shenanigans.

I don’t know when the game is played and won’t be watching, but I will be pulling for Clemson. A meteor strike will be even better.
