Monday night, drivers along Theodore Street in Joliet got a shock, when a 10-foot long ball python slithered across the road, stopping four lanes of traffic.

...The owner, who did not say how his pet got out, took the pet home without further incident.

Looks pretty big for a ball python. Looks like it maybe a Columbia red tail. Couldn’t see the picture real good.

Maybe in the dim and distant past, before $50K snake morphs happened.

[yeah, they’re out there and they’re incredibly beautiful specimens of decades of selective genetic studies]

It’s not illegal to have non-venomous snakes as pets. Though Boas are better than Pythons. They are less likely to bite the owner. And they don’t get as big. A Python gets big enough to kill a human so it’s maybe not so wise to have one of those. But if people are allowed to have Rottweilers and Pitbulls, why not Pythons? A Pitbull is far more likely to kill someone than a Python. Just feed the Python once a month and you are golden.

They’re friendly, fascinating and non-allergenic.

Easy to keep, once you get their particular environmental variables right.

They’re quiet in apartment type settings and require no daily exercise.

Not everyone is able to have a cat or dog.

I know people whose hearts were broken when their aged snake finally passed on.

It’s easy to love something that “loves” you back.

FWIW, in my herp groups and forums, posting “live feeding videos” is guaranteed to get you cyber-curb stomped.

One of our own FReepers keeps very large Retics [and I mean *very* large] and they are gentle, spoiled babies.

It’s not a boa. It’s a reticulated python. Looks to be a dwarf locality by the markings.

A typical drive lane (non-divided highway) is 15 feet wide. That snake is 15 feet long.

Just sayin’

They make great pets. They are quiet, eat once every few weeks, intelligent, and quite social. I have a dozen of this species. They are amazing animals.

Because they are fantastic pets. If you don’t want one, don’t get one. Don’t dare tell me I can’t own one.

Way too big for my puny ass to be toting around, yes.

:D

I’ll stick to my 5-8 foot Boas.
Much more portable.

“Well, thanks for the correction. Perhaps I’ve just known too many owners that prefer the live prey feedings.”

No, you just don’t know any owners of these animals.

You cannot leash a snake.

It’s physically impossible, but you knew that, didn’t you?
