Young church people must really love loud music?

Posted on 02/21/2022 10:53:33 AM PST by MNDude

Last week, I was visiting with my step mother and were discussing Covid and it's impact on life.

My step mom said that after the Covid shut down, that 30% attendance has dropped 30% at her church , although there is no live streaming any more.

She said that they used to have two services--one for the old and one for the young, but now they have merged them into a single service.

Apparently the young people desire LOUD music, so the church's way of accommodating the older people is to hand out ear plugs.

I did attend this church one time a while ago, and the music really was near rock concert level in decibels.

Is loud music really this important to that many people? Can anyone here relate?

We call it “7-11”

Yeah, I like that one better: 7 words repeated 11 times.

Nothing today can compete with "How Great Thou Art"

Oh Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art

The oldsters of the church have forgotten what worship is all about -- it's supposed to be loud.

Psalm 150

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

1 Chronicles 15

16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.

17 So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

18 And with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.

19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;

20 And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Alamoth;

21 And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel.

22 And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilful.

23 And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.

24 And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obededom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

25 So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the house of Obededom with joy.

26 And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.

27 And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen.

28 Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

29 And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the city of David, that Michal, the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

“if you don’t LOVE the church you attend, FIND ANOTHER ONE!”

A Christian man ends up on a deserted island...
He is stranded there for a few years until a rescue boat finds him. When the rescuers get onto the island, they are amazed to see what the man has built to survive. The man had built three different structures out of bamboo and leaves. They asked the man what the first structure was. The man said,”That’s my house.” They then asked about the second structure. “That’s where I go to Church.” The man replied. Then they asked about the third structure. A scowl came over the mans face as he told the rescuers, “That’s where I used to go to Church.”

😁

We visited a church that was so loud that it caused me to be disoriented so much that I had a hard time driving home and staying on the road. My wife asked if I wanted her to drive. Fortunately it was less than a mile and we got home safely.

1 Cor. 14 was about not letting miraculous gifts (most notably speaking in tongues, but I'd argue it applies to all gifts) get the attention over the message.

When the worship session is over, the sermon begins, without the music interfering with the message. In my church, with loud music, we had over 400 people coming to Christ last year. Evidently the music isn't interfering with the message of salvation.

And as for the context of 1st Corinthians 14:40 (that you referenced, I ask you to look at the prior verse).

1 Corinthians 14:39-40 (AMP)
39 Therefore, believers, desire earnestly to prophesy [to foretell the future, to speak a new message from God to the people], and do not forbid speaking in unknown tongues. 40 But all things must be done appropriately and in an orderly manner.

Even though Paul had spent much of chapter 14 fussing about tongues being abused and taking precedence over the message, in verse 39 he says not to forbid tongues altogether (earlier in the chapter he said that tongues is good because it edifies the individual, so it's good, just not as good as a message edifying everybody). It would seem the same would apply to music in church. Don't forbid it, just don't let it take precedence over the message.

Ironically, the ones who would say loud church music violates Paul's 1 Cor 14:40 “Let all things be done decently and in order" admonition tend to be the last churches following Paul's teaching in the prior verse: "Therefore, believers, desire earnestly to prophesy". LOL

I have also heard the following:

We have to sing these songs because that is what the people who are not coming (and never came) want.

While we repeat lines seven or eight times, there are churches that repeat them more times than that.

God likes hearing the same line over and over.

Your music likes are just preferences. (I guess the worship leaders preferences are ordained by God).

I view it as people wanting God AND the world.

We have a time of prayer before every service. Some soft intrumental music doesn’t seem to bother anybody. But when the sound guy plays a louder newer hymn with a vocalist, the ability to focus on prayer isn’t as easy. Thankfully those songs are not the norm.

And I’ve viewed online some of these gospel vocalists that try to warble a half dozen notes into one syllable just like the pop entertainers....., just pathetic.

Loud music in church? Wow the people there must sing very very very loudly

Unless of course the church is using instrumental music. Which of course is unscriptural.

That wasn’t a worship service IMO. He was a good electric guitar player if you like that sort of thing.

I had three guys stop by while I was mowing my yard and wanted to invite me to their church. One of the largest draws was the minister was a great golfer. (I didn’t play golf). LOL.

And the world does rock and roll shows better. If I want to attend the equivalent of a Who concert, I will go see The Who or some similar band.

My church has a choir and is full. We moved to NW Arkansas summer of ‘20. First Baptist - Rogers had a huge tent set up for outdoor worship. I was so happy to find it, and start going to church again after coming from California.

My old church in California did online for over a year before they started doing outside services.

Read Revelation. It speaks of multitudes that no one could number. Trumpets, heavenly hosts etc…. All praising the Lord. It is gonna be loud there. Use this time to get used to it. :)
