Greatest Stringed Instrument Ever Solo done any time, any type of Music. (Vanity)
Any place You want to. ^ | 05/28/2023 | Mabarker1

Posted on 05/28/2023 3:13:13 AM PDT by mabarker1

I'm going to pick 4 for starters that are in different decades but for the time frame were the best in My opinion/era/Genre. I don't care what type of music but this Thread is (hopefully) going to be about Stringed Instrument Solo, meaning only 1 person on the Instrument.

1) Eddie Van Halen born Edward Lodewijk Van Halen Van Halen Eruption (Live)
Trivia note: Eddie made his Guitars one of these was named Frankenstrat

2) James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix) National Anthem U.S.A (Woodstock 1969) I know this one may offend/upset some FReepers due to the song being played and if so I apologize.

Many including Myself aren't aware that Jimmie was in the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles".

3) Aleksandar Živojinović, known professionally as Alex Lifeson* La Villa Strangiato

4) Stephen Ray Vaughan aka Stevie Ray Vaughn Voodoo Child ~ Live From Austin, TX

BTW- 3 of the 4 of My picks are playing for God in Heaven, very impressive Roster being assembled...

*Still with Us.

Sat down and drank coffee with Jimmy and Jim Sueler at Hard Rock Cafe Dallas.

Jimmy gave up picks a long time ago. Huge respect for sure. ( I ain’t held a pick in near 20 years).

Picks are for beginners. Lol

Well, I still use one ;-)

Trying to learn fingerpicking with the eventual goal of being able to do hybrid picking. D**n arthritis keeps getting in the way.

This is one of my favorite guitar pieces, and I never would have guessed in a thousand years that it came from Bob Mould of Husker Du...

I don’t have an innate appreciation of expertise in and of itself. I just like a good tune . . . lack of depth I guess. However, a good friend of mine who IS a serious guitarist maintains that Steve Vai is the best.

Everything else mentioned is technically very good. But only one performance stands alone. Live, in front of “half a million eyes”, during a time of great political strife, during the greatest and most significant cultural event of modern American history.

Pick anything instrumental from Lindsey Buckingham off his album Countdown. 12 string wizardry.
He’s also the catalyst for the best Fleetwood Mac hard stuff (yeah there was)
The Chain
Go Your Own Way
Lots of anger in that crazy little man.

Some good Danny Gatton tunes are his covers of Sleepwalk and the Perry Mason theme.

This has been called the first heavy metal tune. The guitar part is peerless.
