Researchers are calling for new wood heaters to be banned from urban areas and existing ones to be phased out after their study showed wood heaters could be killing up to 63 people a year in the ACT alone.
The study published on Monday in the Medical Journal of Australia found there were a similar number of deaths attributed to domestic wood heaters in the ACT each year as they estimated died prematurely in the territory due to the extreme smoke from the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires...
"Some very big recent studies from the United States found higher rates of cancer, for example, in people who use wood heaters even seasonally."
Peter Irga, who lectures in air and noise pollution at the University of Technology Sydney, said while the study was limited by the use of only three air-monitoring sites, overall it was sound.
"Alarmingly, the estimated deaths and costs could in fact be underestimates, if you take into account the potential increased toxicity from PM 2.5 derived from domestic wood heater smoke," he said...
The ACT government is moving to phase out household wood-fired heaters by 2045 except in rural areas.
It came after a report by ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment Sophie Lewis found there was "no safe level of air pollution for human health" and the heaters had no place in the territory’s renewables future.

Mankind has been heating with wood for tens of thousands of years, while humans thrived. Who are they kidding?
Wood stoves are awesome! They heat the house more adequately than a traditional fireplace...and they burn less wood for the same amount of generated heat. If you are fortunate enough to have one, you may not even need to turn on the home heater at all!
Are fireplaces next? I think so - these insane people want to ban ALL forms of energy except electric. And when the whole grid crashes there will be massive amounts of deaths from the cold. Then they’ll be able to control us better.
The ruling elite will have OIL-powered generators to keep them warm and toasty, while the ordinary folk freeze to death in the dark.
So go ahead and rat them out. That’ll make you real popular with the neighbors.

About 400 people in the US die from cold weather every year.

That is EXACTLY the image of my father! :-)
He passed away a few days before Thanksgiving nine years ago. I still miss him, terribly. His big hobby was knifemaking, he became very skilled at making Damascus ie multilayered steel. Sometimes he would go to his shop a short walk from the house, turn up the heater, sit in a chair amid all his tools and raw steel, and just THINK about what he should do next with knifemaking.
He was a really good character.

Note the word “could”. Not did or have, but could. In other words the study was based upon swags.
They think most people are this stupid. Sadly they are probably correct.

All these recent forest fires add up to more wood smoke then every wood stove and fireplace fire man has made in all of time.
“estimated” and “could be” doesn’t ‘prove’ anything - it’s rank speculation to support a narrative and nothing more.
