I suspect that Trump is trying to force the Europeans to step up to the bar. And the countries that are not at the 2% spending point have drafted legislation they can quickly introduce should he be elected. (None of them border Russia.) But they won’t do it if Trump isn’t elected because they will suffer blowback and bad poll numbers. America covering for European security has enabled countries with WAY too much diversity to keep the country together by essentially paying everyone, so they don’t protest. From the American perspective, the people are just tired of Europe...Israel...Palestine...et. al.

He played at being one. Most of us didn't realize that until he was almost out of office.
