Thousands of everyday snacks that face being BANNED in multiple states because their ingredients are linked to cancer - including Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Lucky Charms and Gatorade

Bills advancing in multiple states could see 'thousands' of America's favorite candies, snacks and sodas banned in their current form.

Last October California approved a historic 'Skittles ban' that outlawed four food additives linked to cancer and fertility issues.

Now, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois have advanced similar measures, targeting a total of 13 additives that are already banned in some European countries over alleged health risks.

New Jersey and Missouri are also considering the bans. If passed, they would force companies to change their recipes or face legal action.

And experts say the moves could change the look, taste and texture of some Americans' favorite food items.

Brian Ronholm, director of food safety at Consumer Reports, a campaign group which has championed the bans, said: 'There is no consumer confusion on this issue — they want these chemicals out of foods.

'But when [consumers] see that the FDA has not been able to keep up with the latest research... they recognize that the states are the only ones trying to protect them from toxic food chemicals right now.'

He warned that thousands of food products including breakfast cereals, sweet treats and beverages could be impacted.

California's landmark 'Skittles Ban', set to go into force in January 2027, outlawed four additives — brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben and Red 3

I watched a video last night about a US expat going to a grocery store in Calabria, Italy(the boot).
There was much less processed food. Plus, the prices of food were actually cheaper than here in NH(even including the EU/$ 1.07 exchange rate). Of course, Italian red wine was cheaper than water here.

Some of the brands were exactly the same as here like Fage Yogurt. Fage is a Greek yogurt maker. They also have a plant in NY State. I eat it every day. So, I am very aware of what it costs for a liter container.

Sorry about your daughters allergy, I have allergies myself, not fun… however trying to equate her allergies with passing off petroleum as food is a bit of a stretch, no?

Carmine is not made from petroleum so, no, it's not a stretch. It's the insect component.

It took us a couple years and it was done by listing everything she ate before she broke out and the looking at the ingredient lists of the products.

Mostly it was extremely dark chocolate products that was causing the problem and when I investigated how they made things like Black Forest Cake, etc, that's when the common ingredient became apparent.

Carmine is also used in some yogurts.

I’m not talking about Carmine, I am talking about Red #3 which my original post was about.

I just bounced off your post.

It was not to connect her allergies with petroleum products.

I remember as kid watching The Honeymooners and thought Jackie Gleason was disgustingly fat.

I recently saw a picture of him from that show and thought that he didn’t look as fat as I remembered him to be. What a wake up call that was.

In my fifth and sixth grade classes (60s) We had ONE chubby kid — ME — everyone else was skinny.

People want to believe that they can escape diseases like cancer that have always existed by changing their diets. Won’t happen.

But, I am sure we pay much more and very well might subsidize the healthier versions for the other countries.

We had little or no fast food, soft drink sizes were smaller, and we didn’t drink sodas at meals-it was coffee, tea, milk or water.

Extracting color from bugs shells may not sound appetizing, but bugs are things that do get and can be eaten.

Insect shells have chitin in them which is the substance in shellfish such as crab, shrimp, lobster and also mollusks that triggers an allergic reaction in people with "shellfish allergies."

Depending upon the individual the reaction can range from mild to severe.
