Two hunters may have become the first Americans to die from a 'zombie deer' disease.
Experts have been warning for years that the nearly 100 percent fatal chronic wasting disease (CWD) - which leaves deer confused, drooling, and unafraid of humans - could jump from animals to people.
But a new study theorizes that it has already happened - in two hunters who died in 2022 after eating contaminated venison.
One of the victims, a 72-year-old man, suffered 'rapid-onset confusion and aggression,' as well as seizures. He died within a month.

The disease was first found in captive mule deer at a Colorado research facility in the 1960s.

You joke but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities that some politician out there writes a bill allowing you to “assign” your vote for the next 20 years. Look for that to be a “bonus” and justification in some Federal death tax legislation.
Ill have to look it up, but Out east, ny I think it was, moose populations dwindled and eventually disappeared, and I think it was because of the wasting disease if I remember right?
I don’t recall any reports of folks eat8ng moose that died from wast8ng disease

Ok I guess it was parasitic Flatwoods that destroyed moose in ny, not wasting disease.
Yeah, I’m not into squirrel brains- but have eaten the tree rats before- they are tough, and not very palatable- although they get pretty tender is pressure cooker. Not real crazy about the flavor though, but might be good pressure cooked then made into a stew

I’m pretty sure the Experts would say this is caused by Global Warming, and the only solution is more Socialism.
Don’t know if it’s right or not, but I have always heard that if you stay away from the brains and spinal stuff you have a very low chance of getting it from an infected deer. I have heard the same thing about not eating squirrel brains as well. Which I don’t feel like I’m missing out on in any case..

In Michigan, you can obtain CWD mail in test kits free from the DNR
We ran into CWD when we lived in Michigan, it had effected the ELK population in Hillman area. They eventually got rid of the herd and brought more Elk from Montana and then fenced them in so their feed wouldn’t get infected.
