How’s that damn three seashell thing work?
Why is Taco Bell even mentioned compared to a company that has 37 locations? I mean, come on, 37 locations? That’s not even a regional player, let alone anything more than a footnote in the space.
Don’t get me wrong, no fan of Taco Bell, but seriously, some little not even regional brand goes BK, why the heck would you mention Taco Bell?
I remember Chi Chis; good food as I recall.
Illegals not buying enough overpriced mex fast food?
Here in Phoenix, the dominant local player is Filiberto’s. So much so that there is a flotilla of knock-offs with eyllow signs and similar names (Poliberto’s, Julioberto’s, Eriberto’s, Rolberto’s, Riliberto’s, Adalberto’s, Hilberto’s)
The Chevy’s near me closed about three years ago, unfortunately. Good food, nice accommodations, kid friendly (could get loud) - and an automated tortilla maker making fresh tortillas at all times.
Really sorry to see it go - I thought all of them were long gone.
It’s not Taco Bell that’s putting other Mexican chains out of business. It’s the independent restaurants run by Hispanic immigrants. The one by me has a line that starts forming a half hour before they open. Best Mexican food in the USA!

Family owned locals are the only way to go here in Flagstaff.
Really good, like fine dining Mexican food restaurants.
When I lived in Seattle, Taco Time was our favorite. Heck, their corporate offices were on Maple Valley highway just east of Renton. In fact, I didn’t know they were not a national chain until I moved out of the area 13 years ago.
Folks, the “competitor” is Tijuana Flats.
My first job was at Taco Bueno in Texas. It used to be top-notch but the quality is falling off.
OK, so which companies are they talking about? I read as far as I could without loading their stupid app.
Why can’t these “journalists” just get to the point?
I liked the food at the local Don Pablo's but hated the ambiance. Most restaurants work hard to absorb sound so you don't hear every silverware clink and conversation. The local Don Pablo's (and it may have been chain wide) seemed to be designed to amplify the noise, which caused people to speak louder, which made more noise for everyone, which made people shout to be heard in a positive feedback loop. If it was more than about one quarter full it would end up being a miserable dinner unless you just wanted to eat alone with ear plugs.
Mexican food trucks rule here in SW Florida. Caesar’s Taco Truck makes a fabulous grilled burrito.
Ever notice that you never see a Mexican eating that crap.
Taco Bell died to me when they did away with the Fiesta Salad Bowl...
I prefer the local dives run by hispanic locals. Best I’ve found are where the landscapers and construction workers go. Look for lots of work trucks parked around.
Great food, lots of it, low prices.
There are plenty of legitimate Taco trucks, and not so legitimate Taco stands that just set up on Streets in So Cal. There is only so much money to go around, something is gonna give and it’s usually the Brick and Mortar shops with the big overhead.
