Many of you may not know this but when you use Wal Mart's self check out you are given three options at the end for giving you the receipt.

1. email receipt

2 text receipt

3 print receipt

now with those three options that bitch door greater always wants to see it but you don't have to show it. Once you pay for it that is your private property.

If they feel you have stole it yes they may call the police but they as in the store better be correct that you stole it because if they were wrong now the customer has a law suit from hell.

This whole situation was not only handled poorly by Wal Mart and the police but the fact this youtuber was punking them and I'm sure the guy knew what he was doing, they both walked right into a major lawsuit.

I had a Walmart security guard come after me for not showing the receipt when I walked past him. I had the receipt under my arm, pointed behind me, as I kept walking. He eventually grabbed the receipt and walked back to the store as I walked towards my car.

Once I put my shoes in the car, I went back to the store to ask the guard for my receipt. He had to dig through the garbage to find it.

I didn’t care about the receipt.

It DOES NOT just apply to "self checkouts", it applies to anyone with a shopping cart that has items that are NOT bagged regardless of how big or small. I often buy cases of water, go through the regular checkout, get a receipt and I'm stopped at the door to show said receipt. People sometimes put a case of water under the cart and then forget it's there.

The door checker at my local Walmart knows better than to ask to look at my receipt.

Costco, Sam’s club etc are clubs. You must verify your purchases. In Walmart you pay and get your receipt the cashier verifies your purchase and you leave. No need to have to check you again at the door unless they believe you stole something.

Not surprised he won a law suit because the jury was obviously just as stupid as the kid.

You’re walking out of the store with a TV.. makes sense if he can’t or won’t provide a receipt then any normal person would assume it’s being stolen. Look at California and everyone walking out with $900 worth of product. Guess everyone assumes it’s paid for. Right.

If he paid for it then yes it’s his but you should provide the receipt if asked when leaving.

It is the right of the business to require it, as the ability to enter their premises is conditional on your willingness to abide by their policies. I know that.

They really should set things up in a way, where if they see you coming out of the check lanes, there should be no need to check the receipts, unless the cashier sends an alert. If they are going to use AI, that would be a good use for it.

I must respectfully offer another opinion here. Walmart is a private business. It has a right to set its own rules, as long as they are reasonable. And in this era of massive shoplifting, it’s reasonable to ask to see a receipt.

Some people find that intrusive or insulting. Those folks have a point. Then go shop somewhere else.

Side comment: One thing Walmart needs to do is prominently display the policy on all the entrance doors. Let anyone who doesn’t know, know.

When they ask to see my receipt at Walmart, I’ve always just said, “No thanks.” I keep walking. Never been a problem. They have no right to stop you.

Sam’s Club is different, they’re a “club,” they can stop you I believe but not positive.

You can’t have it both ways.

Retail outlets are shutting down because shoplifting has gotten completely out of hand.

Either you think they have a right to make sure you purchased the items you are leaving with, or you don’t.

If you don’t, be prepared to live in a national “food desert.”

I have never had a checkout problem at Walmart, other than learning to “use a light touch” on the robotic-cash-register-thing.

I ALWAYS am prepared to provide my receipt(s) to a Walmart employee or the local police who happen to be patroling the area/store on some days.

Based on what I’ve seen on other sites, most people using self-checkout do slip a thing or two into their bags before leaving, so holding them for the police is likely a safe bet, particularly if they argue against it.

They just tripled the number of self checkout lines at my local Neighborhood walmart.

“”Not surprised he won a law suit because the jury was obviously just as stupid as the kid.””

I don’t think that was meant literally - projection that he HAS a good case for a lawsuit is how I take it.

I don’t shop at Walmart, but I agree with you. A private business can certainly ask to see your receipt as you leave.

I hate the receipt checkers and if walmart gives self-checkout the option of emailed receipts that is their own stupidity.

This was a mess all the way around from walmart to the officer to the punk kid who caused it.

When walmart raises prices to offset shoplifting again then don’t bitch about the receipt people.

Take away self checkout and most of this issue goes away.

Costco doesn’t have self-checkout, and they check everyone’s receipt as they leave. I’ve never had a problem with it nor seen anyone else bothered by it.

same thing at all walmarts in my area north of denver: shut down all self-checkouts and didn’t hire enough checkers ... lines from hell with NO express lanes ... i had three items but there were illegal aliens with full carts at the few open checkout lanes ... i took my cart to the service desk and told ‘em they could put the stuff back themselves (all refrigerator items) and said i’d never be back ... had been shopping there since the store opened 20 years ago ... F ‘em ...
