Dixie CHicks still fly...(COME ON FREEPERS GET WITH IT)

"Thomas Newton said from the beginning that conservatives don't tend to protest.

"They've got better things to do," he insisted, "companies to run, projects to complete."

Still, standing at Amelia Street and Revere Avenue late Saturday afternoon, he was pretty sure he'd be joined before long by others eager to blast the Dixie Chicks before the concert at TD Waterhouse Centre.

Two hours later, with most of the crowd already inside for the country group's sold-out show, Newton was still at the intersection, still in the cowboy outfit he'd worn specifically for the occasion, still brandishing his "I Am Ashamed The Dixie Chicks Are From Texas" sign.

And he was still alone."

I'd like to see the Chicks play a free USO concert and then I would accept their apology.

The Dixie Chicks Protest Posse Monday, May 5th join Uncle Fester at the Forum to protest the Dixie Chick concert. If you are interested in joining the "Dixie Chick Protest Posse", please Click Here to E-Mail Uncle Fester for more information. In your e-mail please include your name and phone number.

This radio show always draws crowds. It is almost safe to assume that there will be a couple of hundred people at this protest if you are interested.

Come on people....I hope more than one person will show up at some of these concerts.

Don't count on it. The war is over, the sheeple have already forgotten, and no one cares.

Case in point, look at the vitriolic attacks already happening against the right. Seems the post-war euphoria wore off quick didn't it? I said this on many threads before, this war did nothing to reunite the country. Now that the anti-war leftist cowards and dems see that they are safe from further attack, that our boys are back home safe and they can speak out again, they are back out of the woodwork. Witness the attack on Bill Bennett over the weekend. Look for more of the policy and practice from the Klintonista playbook. The fact is I sense a lot of self deception on this board at times. Like the ideology war has been won. Like America is back to the way it once was and the way we'd like to see it. Far from it my friend. There have been improvements yes, But you can't undo eight years of degredation and cleanse 40 years of hippie counter-culture thinking in a short span of 24 months. Whether you like it or not, the fact is this President won a seat through the court system of this country. Doesn't that tell you something?

Have you forgotten the other 50% of leftist thinking that opposed him back in 2000? Do you think that magically disappeared on 9/11 or during GW2? The Dixie Chicks are nothing more than a prime example of sheeple mentality. They are a perfect example of stupidity and excellent examples of the herd mentality of the non thinking left and others. Sorry, we've got a looonng way to go. We've won a few minor battles, but the war for our culture and country is far from over. Look for it to get damn ugly and vicious in the coming months. We embarrassed them over the war and they are out for revenge.

I admire your dedication, heart and savvy. But, as another poster said on this thread, forget about the stupid, focus on the evil. Put your energies where it will count politically, not over some puppets that are paid to dance and entertain the sheep. The Dixies Chicks are merely stupid, not dangerous. Put your energies into fighting the people that DO have the ability do damage this country, primarily in the political arena.

You mistakenly assume that my signs will say Down with the Dixie Chicks or Boycott Dixie Chicks .

I am a little more clever than that and my signs WILL BE POLITICAL

I guess you will have to wait and see what my signs say....

Hey, if you can't articulate your reasons for protesting, at least be up front about it. I admit to being curious about your reasons, but I simply don't care enough to go to Indiana to see what you're able to pull out of you butt. Feel free to ping me if someone gets pictures of your signs though.

Feel Free to support Dixie Chicks. I have no problem with that.

First, I didn't say anything about supporting the Dixie Chicks. I think country music both sucks and blows. Clearly, however, you have some sort of problem with people supporting the Dixie Chicks, or why else would you expend the energy to protest?

You are entitled to your opinion. You are also free to sit on your butt and espouse support for President Bush and our country and write posts after posts after posts on this site...or you can get out and do it on the street in a venue that will get publicity. That choice is yours..and my choice is mine.

Yes, you can think I am a dumb ass and can't articulate anything. I don't have a problem with you thinking that...because I don't really give a damn what you think

Well said, Eagle. We have bigger fish to fry- let us not become distracted from the real threats.

Maybe it's time to leave the chicks alone. They expressed an unpopular opinion, they've paid for it - bigtime.

I don't know that I would say that- apparently, they're still at the top of the charts- number 2 on the country charts after 35 weeks on the chart. An earlier album, Wide Open Spaces, is still 11 on the pop catalog charts after 234 weeks of being on the charts. Home is up to 23 on the Top 200 chart, up from 33 last week and after 35 weeks on the chart. You can look it up on http://www.billboard.com. I do agree with you though- the story is no longer what Mains said two months ago but how the poor, beleagured Chicks are being attacked by nutty right wingers.

My take?
Americans in general have short memories and shorter attention spans.
I appreciate your efforts, but you are wasting your time protesting them in major cities outside the South where their POP music resonates.
Let's just make sure they know they are not welcome in their home in Texas and the South so that it will force them to change their identity (and even their name) to Pop, which they are anyway. They are about as "country" as Michael Jackson!

You are assuming I am trying to influence their ticket sales.
I am not.
My signs aren't even about the Dixie Chicks except for a reference to me being PROUD of GWB.

In fact, one of the signs will have the actual cards from the Iraqi most wanted playing deck pasted on it.

You are once again wrong. This is about using a venue to get across a message. I could care less if Dixie Chicks sell out every concert - not every concert is sold out right now- or if they reach platinum status with the current record.

But again, think what you wish.

May I offer a perspective on this as a lifelong Nashvillian?

Today, there are two kinds of country music fans. There are the long time fans who are serious about loving the music, and then there are those who climbed onto the country bandwagon in recent years because the music has become fashionable. Let me focus on the first group.

The serious, traditional fan will drive from anywhere to Nashville see the Grand Ole Opry, hit the gin joints, and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. Many of them return year after year. (In the summer, Nashville is Winnebago City). Most of these fans had to save all year to make the trip. They are the salt of the earth, the real backbone of this country, and they are, among many other things, extremely loyal.

Most Grand Ole Opry performers haven't had a hit in years. Old timers like Porter Waggoner and Little Jimmy Dickens don't even get much airplay anymore. But when any of these performers book a date at a fair, or in a club, their fans show up. These pickers can still make a good living because of the loyalty of the fans. There's a bond that the Johnny-come-lately fans don't seem to understand.

More than once, I've heard the phrase used, "He may be a sumbitch but he's our sumbitch". In addition to loyalty, the fans are also forgiving. The Dixie Chicks have been punished, but the fans are still there. Last months brouhaha is over. It's time to move on.

(Of course, in the case of Ty Herndon, forgiveness never came, but that's another story.)

By the way, I have an opinion about you. However, I don't find it necessary to denigrate you. Maybe your need to say these things about me says something about you.

Yes, yes, I'm sure such an articulate, level-headed and not at all emotional individual will be able to convey a clear message. Just as soon as you figure out what that message will be.

Chuckle.
