Border Militia: We'll Shut Down the Border with Machine Guns

Casey Nethercott is the leader of a militia group dubbed the Arizona Guard and said during a TV interview broadcast on Friday, "When this Minuteman thing is over, if it doesn't work, we're going to come out here and close the border with machine guns."

KVOA TV-4 in Tucson carried a report on Friday by reporter Nancy Perla that toured the group's compound that sits along the Arizona/Mexico border near Douglas, Arizona. The camera showed two older model American made SUV's, both painted black, that Nethercott claims are "armored vehicles" with "quarter-inch steel in them." Pointing again to the vehicles, Nethercott continued, "You'll get killed without them, here's been so many shootouts out here."

The camera then shows a concrete block wall riddled with bullet holes that Nethercott says came from drug smugglers. The report titled "Mimicman Projects" by KVOA calls them copy cats and says the project could begin on July 4, though Nethercott would release no details.

The Minuteman Project stated through Chris Simcox, who is an organizer for the project, that they don't support a violent solution. "I think anytime you go to that length to take the law into your own hands, you're asking for trouble," Simcox told KVOA.

The armed militia supports the Minuteman Project, but says that if they fail to close the border to illegal border crossers, his group will step in and be heavily armed to do the job.

Just because a parent points a child in a certain direction doesn't mean they are all going to get white collar jobs. Some people enjoy doing jobs that are anything but white collar. Some don't have the education do to otherwise. Are we just suppose to ignore the LEGAL AMERICANS who do these jobs just because ILLEGALS are cheaper or they are just looking for "the American Dream"? What difference does that make anyway? ILLEGAL IS EXACTLY THAT. Breaking the law used to mean something.

Your propaganda is so thin we can see your agenda through it.

My agenda is to support President Bush's immigration reforms. I'm happy to use the same rhetoric as our commander in chief during this debate.

They came over before the US govt. tried to control the labor supply.

Obviously you have lost your mind.

They aren't cheap once you add in all the benefits paid for by HARD WORKING LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS.

Immigrants and the people who employ them pay taxes too to support these systems, so there is absolutely no free ride. Instead of attacking immigrants, why don't we simply reform the welfare system so all benefits are limited?

It's been proven many times over on this web site that Tancredo did not hire illegal aliens, but these folks can't help but drag up old rumors and attempt to make them true.

Not true. What was proven is if you provide objective information that place Tancredo in a bad light, all hell breaks lose and his supporters will attack the messenger like rabid dogs.

I know they go by a different name, but how are they really different?

That's easy, I know you already know the difference however I'll explain, one wants to report aliens crossing into this country illegally, the other group wants to shoot the illegals. BIG difference. One is non-violent, the other is violent.

Who the hell do you think built buildings and tarred roofs in 100 degree heat BEFORE we allowed ILLEGALS TO BREAK OUR LAWS?!

Probably the same type of people that built the transcontinental rail road. Immigrants.

Just by being here ILLEGALLY is a FREE RIDE. If they are breaking one law what makes you think they are respecting the others?

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. What makes you think that employers hiring ILLEGALS are reporting salaries or earnings of people who aren't suppose to be here in the first place? ILLEGALS cost the system more than they are contributing. Like I said, FORCE the employers hiring ILLEGALS to pay for their benefits and see how many are still employed.

Some people enjoy doing jobs that are anything but white collar.

So American consumers and taxpayers are suppose to support some guy because instead of working to his full potential, he takes a job in a zoo feeding giraffes because he likes animals?

So you're sure that every member of the so called 'non-violent' group is opposed to shooting migrants?

They get a job, work hard, pay taxes, send money home and use the rest to take care of their immediate family. Is that not what was once the American dream?

We scratch the stone a little deeper and find you're not a fan of 'outsourcing'? I'm seeing the outline of a Buchanan/Nadar/Wille Green/UAW caricature.

Spend an hour researching labor shortage, labor supply, or labor market.

And if you have any time left over, research birthrate.

Well this is one way to finally get the US military on our border.

The military IS on the border - and they have to stop their practices every time a mexican is sighted "for their safety". Like all the reports are saying: this takes away from training time that they need before being assigned. I think they could do a decent job of maintaining border impenetrability in their areas by NOT stopping their training.

"Your illegally crossing the border and getting killed during our live fire exercises is not our responsibility."

Your rhetoric is really getting tiresome. There is a difference in LEGAL immigrants and ILLEGAL immigrants and you are totally ignoring that fact on purpose. ILLEGALS who are breaking the law should be thrown out of the country for good, period. The employers who are hiring them should be arrested, fined and have their businesses closed down. That is MY OPINION of these people who are breaking our laws.

I don't really give a crap why they are here ILLEGALLY. Get in line and come to this country the LEGAL way or STAY OUT! If they don't respect this one law I doubt they are going to respect any of the others.

I'm sure the TERRORISTS who cross the same border are all going to respect these laws too.

President Bush's plan will allow them to register and work in the country legally. Why don't you support that approach?

It's fun to take two unrelated groups and smear them together.

Say, did you know that the KKK recently supported the same sort of firearms bans as the NAACP?
