The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

If '-' was a leftist supported by Freepers, hell bent on infecting and destroying the conservative movement, there would be the same response.

Re-read Jim Robinson's posts since you Liberal supporting freepers ignore all reason from everyone else.

Conservatism is worth fighting for, not trashing. Why are you supporting Mario Cuomo's biggest fan this far out? Does everyone think they are DICK MORRIS in Rudyland?

How are you planning on winning with 2% Hunter ... and kicking out the 32% Giuliani?

Yep, that's why Howard Dean won the Dem nomination in 2004 because he was leading John Kerry 40-12 in December in New Hampshire and Kerry gave up.

It ain't over until the votes are cast. There may be an undiscovered scandal in Rudy's closet. Or a shriek in Iowa for Hunter. Or any number of things.

The primary is a year off. It's absurd to harp on numbers now, given history.

You keep this up and you will reduce yourselves to the level of the usual suspects that dominate the Civil War threads. Soon...you will only have yourselves to talk to.

You don't want to be that irrelevent! :>) (trust me)

Hey, if the Rudy boosters started posting anything of substance...

On second thought.

But you aren't- you're a conservative NOT a Republican. Isn't that what you said? Are you a member of the Conservative Party? I'm a Republican which means I vote straight Republican - I give money to Republican candidates. I don't know what more you want.

I am a Republican as well. I started voting for Reagan in the California gubanatorial elections.

You're responding to something you may not completely understand. areafiftyone said that many of the people exposing Rudy's offensive views and record aren't real Republicans. I challenged her to compare her own Republican credentials. The question I asked her was if she was a Member of the Republican Party. Since I haven't seen you challenge anyone's Republican credentials, I didn't direct it to you. But if you want to play, I'm game.

It's direct linear logic, but I didn't figure you'd see it that way. That's OK, it's not the only thing we disagree on.

Its early. If I was gonna guess right now about what level of support Hunter will get in 3-6 months of campaigning, I'd probably be wrong. So calm down and relax. My bigger point was, Rudy is stuck in the 30% range and I don't see him breaking 40% with Republicans. Everyone knows his name, few people know about Rudy`s liberal record. Once conservatives get the word, they'll be backing off supporting him.

And who controls who gets the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award that Rudy Giuliani was honored to receive? Nancy? And if so, how about link to back it up.

You can never resist. Sooner or later something on my 'removed list' will show up in one of your replies, if nothing else your style is consistent, nothing wrong with that or right about it either, it's just is what it is.

How does Hunter win?

1) Rudy is not in the race and Hunter is.

2) He gets his name out there, which is beginning to do.

3) He raises money, which he is beginning to do.

4) Supporters begin to talk him up and other people become interested.

5) We go into the primary voting booth and vote for him.

6) And... viola... he may win.

7) It is way too early to count any candidate as a sure thing and another candidate out. Just ask Howard Dean.
