It's been a win-win the past few days for Democratic and Republican loyalists, but what about the rest of us?
You know. Americans who either don't think that (a) spending nonexistent trillions is quite the way to proceed in an economic crisis, or that (b) Rush Limbaugh is the messiah.
Oh wait, that's right, Barack Obama is the messiah. I get confused sometimes, what with so much deification going on. Limbaugh's 85-minute speech at last weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference, frequently interrupted by grateful applause from a slightly star-struck audience, was, dare we say it, Obama- esque.
But where there's deification, there's bound to be demonization. Thus, Rush told conferees that Obama, in essence, is Stalin. And Obama, via chief commando Rahm Emanuel, anointed Limbaugh as leader of the GOP, calling him the "voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party."
Talk about damning with praise.
El Rushbo can't have minded much, despite his protestations that he was being manipulated and maligned by the White House to distract Americans from the "plunging economy." What could be better for a talking head than to be chosen by a president as his worthy adversary?
At least finally both sides certainly should agree on one thing: The Fairness Doctrine is a terrible idea! Who wants fair and politically balanced commentary on the airwaves when being "unfair" is keeping both armies in their Humvees?
The body politic, meanwhile, resembles a tempest-tossed ocean liner on which passengers scurry across the deck as the ship pitches. On one side is the president, promising to build a new $3.6 trillion ark. On the other is El Rushbo, clutching the conservative tablature: Thou shalt not raise taxes.

I hate to say it, but guess what Gordon Smith’s religious affiliation is.
I’m not going to say it. No, I’m not!
There is something more at work here. Mormon founder Joseph Smith gave a prophecy that stated the Mormons would rescue the constitution. He spoke this as he was running for POTUS against Andrew Jackson. He was killed in a gunfight before the election, so later LDS leaders have said it is a prophecy to come:
From the Encyclopedia of Mormonism (LDS publication):
LDS attachment to the Constitution has been further encouraged by an important oral tradition deriving from a statement attributed to Joseph Smith, according to which the Constitution would hang by a thread and be rescued, if at all, only with the help of the Saints. Church President John Taylor seemed to go further when he prophesied, When the people shall have torn to shreds the Constitution of the United States the Elders of Israel will be found holding it up to the nations of the earth and proclaiming liberty and equal rights to all men (JD 21:8). To defend the principles of the Constitution under circumstances where the iniquity, or moral decay, of the people has torn it to shreds might well require wisdom at least equal to that of the men raised up to found it. In particular, it would require great insight into the relationship between freedom and virtue in a political embodiment of moral agency. (Encyclopedia of Mormonism, Vol.1, 1992)
Romney think that this pertains to him (or so I believe) and that is why is ran (and will run again). That Romney would fulfill this prophecy has been told to me numerous times by LDS friends.
I also noted that Romney dropped out of the race (Feb 7) right after the death of Gordon B. Hinkley (last LDS prophet) (Jan 27). I suspect he lost some Church Hierarchy support.
Also, in the LDS church, the Church comes first, before everything, even family. I know of many men and women whose LDS spouses divorced them when they left the LDS. If the Church is more important than your marriage, what makes you think that Romney would not put the interests of the LDS Church ahead of the Constitution?
I know too much about the Mormon mindset to vote for one.
And as far as the Catholic support of Romney (as it is), my husband correctly pointed out that Romney’s “faith” speech was basically just Kennedy’s speech and some Catholics fell for it.
Look at his recent record as Gov of Massachusetts. The only reason he is trying to establish himself as a conservative is that if he ran on HIS record as Gov, he wouldn't stand a chance among conservatives.
How's that tinfoil hat fitting you?
How’s that tinfoil hat fitting you?

Dont have one. I got that straight from active, temple going LDS.
"Bishop Romney's Sadistic Anti-Abortion Counseling"
"She says,
'I went to (Romney's) office and I congratulated him on taking a
pro-choice position. And his response was Well they told
me in Salt Lake City I could take this position,
and in fact I probably had to in order to win in a liberal
state like Massachusetts.'"
No, some tenured marxist radical feminist at a fourth rate university claims he said that to her.
I can see critical thinking is not your strong suit.
Nor have I.
Perhaps the "ONLY BIGOTS ARE AGAINST MITT" virus has struck again....or the Romney campaign has activated the operatives to take advantage of the chaos in the Republican party and try to knock off Palin and Jindal.
I did. I think it's a pretty impressive record. What don't you like about it?
Socialized medicine.
RomneyCare.
Only two types of people live in Mass...Ivory tower libs and those who CHOOSE to live in thier presence.
Real conservatives come from places like Alaska.
Anyone who says it is socialized medicine is either ignorant of the plan or doesn't understand basic economics.
We don’t need a “quiet” leader, we need a warrior!
I guess Romney is ignorant as he recanted and said it was a terrible idea.
Socialized medicine, rolled on the gay marraige issue, the boston big dig, just for starters.
Or Montana :)
No Willard. Period.
don’t forget his limp-wristed RKBA views.
